rust around rear window rust around rear window rust around rear window rust around rear window rust around rear window

Hey Nissan, it's 2019 and my 2017 (2 y/o) Pathfinder PLATINUM model has started to rust around the rear hatch window, exhaust, and sub-frame.

I visited my local Nissan dealer in Stanhope NJ and was advise the "bubbling rust" on the sub frame is normal.

The young service Rep tried blowing it off as simple "Surface Rust" and stated that's "normal" and not to worry because it will "not get worse" for at least 5 - 10 years. After he repeated this several times, while attempting to get the Service Tech to side with him was very annoying and unprofessional.

Minimizing an obvious defect really annoyed me (I've been around cars 50+ years), surface rust is one thing however bubbling rust is a different story all together.

NO 2 YEAR-OLD VEHICLE SHOULD START RUSTING OUT. Unfortunately Nissan covers RUST only for 3 years/36,000 miles... it's SHAMEFUL because Hyundai warranties rust to 10yrs/100,000 miles.

I'm hoping the Rep from Nissan will get back to me with some intelligent answers.

rust around rear window rust around rear window

In September 2019 I discovered rust below the rear hatch window of my 2017 Pathfinder (Platinum edition) just below the rubber gasket. I brought this to the dealers attention (Service Dept at Stanhope Nissan, NJ). They took pictures and submitted them to the regional Rep. After several follow-ups and more than a month later of no results I stopped in to speak with Jamie.W the Parts & Service Director only to find out the repair was denied, but, that I'm still covered for rust 10yrs/10k miles. He gave me a ph# to Nissan Consumer Affairs (1-800-NISSAN1) to followup.

I contacted NCA and was assigned Case# 37893xxx and was told that someone from Tennessee (615 area code) would contact me within 24 hours, which they did, only to be told that Nissan does not cover rust and that they will NOTHING to remedy this ... the rep seemed to take pleasure in telling me this :(

Totally UNACCEPTABLE, this Pathfinder (Platinum) is only 2 years old, it shouldn't be rusting and Nissan should stand behind their vehicles.

unfortunately, we have 2 Nissans, the other a 2016 Rogue, but I can honestly say this to the company NISSAN - YOU HAVE LOST MY RESPECT AND BUSINESS ... FOREVER!!

Update from Jul 19, 2022: Nissan decided NOT to fix the rust around the rear window. After some consideration I decided to give up on Nissan permanently and traded the Pathfinder (took a loss) in for a 2019 Ford F150. The F150 has an all aluminum body so rust will not be a concern. Goodbye Nissan, I'm done with you.
