I'm writing to any and all consumers who now own or have owned in the past, any Nissan Quest, Altima, Frontier ect. with a 3.3L V6. These engines were also used in some Mercury Villagers and Fords. My complaint is when i needed to replace the broken rubber seal under the distributor cap, while trying to stop a minor misfire. I discovered this very inexpensive seal was not sold at any parts retailer or dealership from California to Florida.
After many hours of frustration trying to resolve this issue, including communications with our local Nissan dealership, and extremely aggravating calls to Nissan North America, i have not found any fix to this obvious consumer ripoff. I grew up working on cars as far back as 1970 and have always respected makers such as Datsun (Nissan) Honda, Mazda etc. but have lost all respect for Nissan.
Put simply, I think about the millions of 3.3L V6 engines sold around the world and how many consumers have been sold new distributors simply because of a faulty rubber seal. this seal is very easy to change and i had to go to a wrecking yard, go through a dozen distributors to find a usable seal because all parts retailers in town wanted $230 to $300 dollars for the new distributor.
Let me add a bit more fuel to this fire. How many thousands of people have taken there said 3.3L V6 engines to a garage for a misfire complaint and were told there distributor needed replaced, the mechanic does not have to disclose what exactly what is wrong with the part, nor reveal that it will be delivered to him at wholesale price and sold to you for a much higher price than say Autozone charges. Then there is labor, so easily four to five hundred dollar bill for a seal worth less than $5.
I have had friends bring me the same problem on there early Nissans and i am outraged at this behavior and there is more to this story and i am looking for an attorney big enough too take on Nissan and stop this corporate greed.
