1). transmission - 29,889 mi. To present. Serviced 6 times. Constantly shifts up and down at school zone speed, loud clunk when decelerating at 40 mph, loud clunk when decelerating in highway exit curve. Dealer says everything is working to specs...nothing fixed. 2). brakes - 46,363 & 55,204 mi. New front and rear brakes installed. At 73,014 miles van needs new brakes and rotors. 26,651 highway miles. Wallace Nissan service said Nissan used undersized rotors for vehicle weight and tire size, hence need for frequent replacements. 3). electrical - 04/05/2010, 64,194 mi. The vdc and ck engine lights came on, van speed very erratic...5 to 40mph all by itself, stalled several times. Dealer computer diagnosis...faulty sensors in crankshaft and camshaft $209.07. 10/03/2011, 72,547 mi. Same vdc and erratic speed. Dealer's initial diagnosis, faulty throttle sensor, installed new sensor...same problem, upon further investigation dealer found the ECM unit was totally corroded and had to be replaced. $962.16. Nissan mechanics say it was a faulty design location of the ECM right under the windshield wiper cowling which allowed water to enter the ECM, corrode it and cause its eventual failure. In subsequent year models of the Quest, Nissan moved the ECM to a more protected area. 4). electrical - sliding rear door sensors continue to fail as the door shuts to prevent injury to a person with a hand in the way. Sliding doors continue to rattle even after 6 service visits to fix it. 5). electrical. Rear hatch motor and lock mechanisms continue to break down even after 6 service visits and $1,164.94 in repair costs. 6). other problems involve: Faulty backup sensors, serviced 4 times $285.88. Same drive belts replaced twice within 26,651 miles and $250, leaking sunroof and skylights, Nissan had to replace the entire roof because of severe rust. Overall, van is crap!

Bad vibration when braking, changed rotors and pads on front brakes seem to make the problem less but after a period of time a clunking noise 5000 miles was starting to be heard. Control arm ball joint on right side had excessive play and was replaced, but that did not get ride of the shudder in the braking situation. Told it was warped brakes, replaced break rotors and pads 1000 miles. Still no difference in the shudder is still there rotated the tires no difference in the shudder. I had new tires in the car when the right front wheel fell off. No stud-lugs could be found and major damage to front fender and bumper. Our au pair driver reported a noise coming from somewhere but visual inspection did not indicate where the problem was. Continued to drive when the noise became louder pull off interstate to shoulder at about 15 mph tile fell off. Body and mechanical work will be done. To correct the problem.

Car vibrates badly while braking. Has been to dealer three times for problem but not fixed.

Whenever we hit the brakes our 2004 Nissan Quest shutters and shakes. We first reported the problem at about 23,000 miles. Van has been to the dealer at least 5 times for this problem. Mechanic can never find anything wrong. On our own we have replaced the front rotors when it was discovered both original rotors had warped, replaced the brake pads three times, and turned the rotors 6 months after replacing them (79K miles). Van goes back into the dealer next week again to have the problem addressed again as it has gotten worse. I am stationed with the military away from home, and my wife uses the Quest as her only transportation with our toddlers, older children, and guests. Van now has 114K miles.

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Quest. The contact stated when driving at speeds of at least 55 mph and applying the brake, the vehicle would abnormally shake and vibrate violently. In addition, the vehicle was also pulling to the right. The vehicle was taken to the dealer at least 10 times and the dealer would only advise there were no failures in the vehicle. The dealer contributed the failure to the contacts manner of driving the vehicle. The brakes were replaced five times in an attempt to correct the failure but to no avail. The contact stated the brakes needed to be replaced again. The failure mileage was 40,330 and the current mileage was approximately 104,000.

I have a 2004 Nissan Quest I have to replace the rotors about every 5,000 miles because they warp and cause the vehicle to shake when applying the brakes. This problem has also caused damage to the wheel bearings. It seems that the brake rotors are to small for the vehicle. I cant afford to keep replacing the rotors and brakes it is unsafe for me and my family. I contacted Nissan but they wont do anything, there are reports of this problem all over the internet.

The brakes have to be changed at least 3-4 times a year, and rotors had to be changed because they were about a 1/2 in. Gone. Steering wheel began to shake every time I had to brake. Brakes never stop squeaking. Finally had to put new calipers in about a week ago I finally thought my brakes would be working fine again. Worked good for one day, squeaking came back every time I brake, still hear scrapping noise from the brakes. One problem after another with this car. When it rains from front window leaks into the glasses holder since I purchased the car. Yesterday the passenger sliding door has a hook at the back of the door when it closes it hooks to it also, the piece fell into the door now the door does not close right. The sensor thinks the door is open so now the bottom lights stay on. This was the worse purchase I may have done. Since I bought the car its been problems know wonder they only gave a 3 year warranty on it. Sometimes I put my car in drive and it fails to take off, so I have to put turn it off wait a few seconds then try it again. So what is next to fail? even the back panel that covers the lights near the license plate fell off. My biggest problem I worry about is the brakes because I have 5 kids I really think this is a defect on this car and from what I read I am not alone on the brake issue. I really think they have to do something about the brakes.

Van was in service to repair a broken cd player. During the visit, the dealer performed a free 21 point inspection, and found excessive wear on the brake pads. The brake pads were changed and rotors resurfaced 6,000 miles ago. The van has only 21,000 miles. This is the third set of brake pads that had to be replaced. In addition, rotors were resurfaced twice and replaced initially at 4,000 miles. The first occurrence at 4,000 miles was covered under warranty. Second incident, which occurred at 15,000 was not covered, citing that it was a wear item. The recent occurrence at 21000 miles which required new set of pads and resurfacing of the rotor was taken care by the dealer as a goodwill gesture. Nissan needs to address the concerns of public safety. Proper Agency should also look into this matter further, because it is definitely a safety concern.

The brakes starting making a loud rubbing sound. The vehicle has less than 35,000 miles so I took it into the dealership. They say all the pads need replaced and a rotor needs replaced. This is the third Nissan but first Quest and I have put over 50,000 on those vehicles without issues. They say it is not covered under the warranty because of normal wear but I do not believe that this quickly can be normal wear.

Braking on any downhill incline causes the vehicle to vibrate severely and the steering wheel to shake. Could cause loss of control.

: the contact stated there are multiple problems associated with the vehicle. First being, the brakes made a noise when applied. Second, while attempting to accelerate, the transmission remained in third gear. This would not allow the vehicle to accelerate properly, at any speed. Thirdly, the sliding door on the passenger's side opened while driving. The contact was able to close the door, although it took much force to do so. Lastly, the driver and passenger side vents had hot air flowing through them. The temperature gauges were adjusted; however the hot air still flowed. As a result, the air conditioner was turned on in order to maintain a comfortable temperature. The vehicle was taken to the dealer numerous times for inspection and solutions to these problems; however the problems could not be duplicated.

Had a crash in Nov 2005 at low speed (approximately 25 mph). The brakes seemed to simply not work. The brake pedal was pressed very hard and seemed like nothing was happening. I have had the brakes checked at every other service appointment and nothing seems to be obvious to the Firestone mechanic. Also the tires skid a lot on even sandy streets. I dare not drive in snow with this elephant of a van. It gets stuck in snow on the slightest of inclines. My Nissan Quest SE 2004 has had the privilege of holding up the traffic several times on the slightest incline in the road in snow. I am honestly very scared of driving in the snow. Today is the first day I have started exploring whether other people have had similar problems and found a number of them online. So I decided to do my part by sending this info in.

The consumer had trouble braking when going down a hill. There was tremendous heat being released from the brakes. Taken to dealer for checkup.. the lowest automatic transmission ha dno slowing effect on down hill speed. This required brake usage. At the brake check point brake leap was 385 degrees. Anything over 350 degress requires at least a 45 minute wait before continuing. While the brakes did not fail completely, they were approaching a temperature which could result in failure.
