Had the vehicle since 2004 as the original owner. Vehicle has not been in an accident. Heard a loud clunk when driving after removing foot from brake and after going over bumps. Turned out the metal subframe of the vehicle has completely rusted out and separated from the frame of the vehicle. The steering crossarms and ball joint are loose because of this. It's a $4000 repair and car has only 120K miles. Had to get new car. Dealer said it's not safe to even drive and not worth fixing.

The contact owns a 2004 Nissan Quest. The contact stated that while driving 35 mph, there was an abnormal scraping noise heard from the front end of the vehicle. The contact also mentioned that the air bag warning light would illuminate intermittently. The vehicle was taken to a private mechanic where it was diagnosed that the driver's side caliper, brakes, rotors, front brake, front driver's side wheel bearing, passenger's side lower control arm, and the frame needed to be replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure and current mileage was 114,000. Updated 06/15/16

There is a loud, annoying and dangerous rattling sound coming from the motor. Based on what seems like hundreds of thousands of complaints and many opinions from very experienced mechanics, it is the timing chain - the whole thing- from the chain, tensioners and everything associated with the entire timing chain mechanism. This is absurdly annoying, extremely dangerous and outrageously labor intensive and expensive to fix. I, like so many others out there, put my family in this vehicle on a daily basis and have to wonder just how safe this thing is. What happens if the chain breaks" what happens if it breaks while on a major highway" I just had my family to Florida this summer - can't imagine that scenario. Obviously, this problem exists absolutely everywhere with this vehicle.

Bad vibration when braking, changed rotors and pads on front brakes seem to make the problem less but after a period of time a clunking noise 5000 miles was starting to be heard. Control arm ball joint on right side had excessive play and was replaced, but that did not get ride of the shudder in the braking situation. Told it was warped brakes, replaced break rotors and pads 1000 miles. Still no difference in the shudder is still there rotated the tires no difference in the shudder. I had new tires in the car when the right front wheel fell off. No stud-lugs could be found and major damage to front fender and bumper. Our au pair driver reported a noise coming from somewhere but visual inspection did not indicate where the problem was. Continued to drive when the noise became louder pull off interstate to shoulder at about 15 mph tile fell off. Body and mechanical work will be done. To correct the problem.

I have a harmonic vibration felt through the steering wheel on my 04 Quest S. over long distances, the shaking causes numbness of the hands. The dealer has attempted to resolve the problem three times before ultimately declaring that this is the normal operating condition of the vehicle. I believe that this is completely unacceptable. This is a log of what was done to resolve the issue: Month 22 in service: 28-Jun-05 @ 29,972 miles - replaced all four Goodyear Eagle ls 225/65R16 tires as per dealer recommendation. Reason: Worn. (part# oetir-06482). This is when the shimmy effect became obvious. The problem was reported to the dealer. Month 23 in service: 15-Aug-05 @ 32,305 miles - re balanced all 4 tires. No effect. Month 23 in service: 22-Aug-05 @ 32,727 miles - replaced front two tires. Tires road force balanced. No effect. Month 24 in service: 7-Sep-05 @ 33,101 miles - re balanced all wheels and checked road force. Checked front hub runout. Adjusted steering rack force. Cleaned all mating surfaces between hub and rotor and rotor and wheel. Dealer claims road tested ok. No effect. Month 25 in service: 28-Sep-05 @ 33,985 miles - road test. Dealer states normal operating condition for vehicle. I have reported the issue to Nissan Consumer Affairs (case # 5066744) but they refuse to accept responsibility for the issue by stating that it is a normal operating condition.

Nissan Quest 2004 service engine soon light on and problems with steering. The service engine soon light had come on 3 times, creaking was felt in the steering wheel and or the front end, sounds were heard coming from the engine compartment, computer tire monitor indicated a flat tire and or low tire pressure during cold weather, the vehicle would run for five minutes then go up to 4 degrees higher (over inflated), when the weather was warm, the setting would then be above 40 psi which was dangerous to drive if not adjusted (incorrect results on the display), SRS light had come on after recall campaign #04V103000 was performed, driver's side power window was intermittent, sliding doors made loud bump noise when opened all the way, especially on inclines, heat outlets located on the floor behind the first row seat can't be controlled by the passenger rear controls, the dome lights were not working, the door rattled, the drivers side front window would not move, the window switch has an open circuit, the vehicle was jerking upon acceleration at 30 mph, rear heater was blowing cold air, there was a heavy grinding noise when the vehicle was first started after sitting for more than one hour along with the power steering, transmission fluid leaked a reddish/purple fluid on the garage floor, the interior lights were inoperative and there was an evaporation leak.
