Quest SV 3.5L V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 83,451 miles

Follow up to first complaint. Nissan installed new CVT transmission October 2021 with 47k miles.

38 months later, at 83k miles, the CVT Transmission failed again.

Nissan consumer affairs did not seem surprised to get another phone call from me. The Nissan mechanics laughed at the fact that another CVT transmission failed, when they told me it would cost $8,400 to fix it AGAIN! They also let me know that Nissan is now giving their transmissions 36 months unlimited mileage warranty. Which is much better than the 12k mile 12 month warranty I received the first time we replaced the CVT Transmission.

Our family vehicle was just about paid off, and another catastrophic failure of the CVT transmission- No warning lights, no nothing to indicate any issue. Just complete random failure!

Do not buy a Nissan with a CVT transmission. They are garbage, and Nissan knows it. They have had at least 5 Class Action lawsuits filed for their inferior product, yet they continued to produce and sell vehicles with the CVT transmission.

Quest SV 3.5L V6

  • CVT transmission
  • 47,471 miles

We bought our family vehicle used with 30K miles on it. 17K miles later, 47k miles, the transmission failed catastrophically and needed replacement. At the time, it was outside any warranty as the vehicle was 8 years old. The dealer/Nissan worked with us a little bit to get our out of pocket cost down to just over $5k. (without discount, it was $6k plus. I contacted Nissan consumer affairs after the incident, and after researching, and finding many other Nissan models that had CVT failures. They of course did nothing, despite the fact, they were getting yet another complaint about the inferior CVT transmission in all Nissans, that have been produced and installed since the late 2000's. In October of 2021, the brand new CVT transmission, installed by Nissan, purchased brand new, only came with a 12k mile 12 month warranty. Further cementing their own knowledge of the garbage CVT's are.

This is just the first time it was replaced by the dealer/Nissan mechanics at 47K miles.

There will be a second complaint for the 2nd failed transmission at 83k miles-37 months later. Which, side note, stung to hear that Nissan now offers 36 month, unlimited mileage on their newly installed transmission for $8,400 USD.

Quest LE

  • CVT transmission
  • 121,000 miles

Although this particular CVT appears to have lasted longer than most Nissan CVT failures in other "models", making it to 121,000 miles, despite proper care/maintenance with modern vehicles this still seems LOW compared to most other "makes" and transmission types. There is apparently some inherit problems with this particular design/system.

Quest LX

  • CVT transmission
  • 100,000 miles

Folks my Nissan 2013 Quest just had the transmission fail and I had to replace to the tune of $3500. Nissan "Customer Care" was probably the worst experience I have ever had with a manufacturer. They offered no support but to say the vehicle was out of warranty and they could do nothing for me.

After doing research I see where the CVT has had massive amount of problems and is known by Nissan to be an issue but they continue to ignore it.

I explained that a customer is so hard to come by and once they are gone they are gone forever. They could have cared less. The Nissan culture is poor from the top down.

I was probably the biggest advocate of this car until last week and all has changed. I nor my family will ever purchase a Nissan product again. Please pass this on so you or your friends don't experience what I have gone through.

Sincerely,

Lance Butler
