rear final main drive / rear differential broke

On my home from Bath, NC I began to hear a grinding noise under my 2008 Rogue. I've been hearing a whining noise for about a week just thinking it was the tires because at a higher speed the noise dissipated. It was all I could do to make it back to New Bern NC to the dealership there. I was told it was the Rear Final Main Drive and the cost is not covered under the CVT Recall so out of pocket would be about $2400.00. This is insane. I purchased this car a year ago used and did my homework then and the worst thing I came up with then was the CVT problems. I sure wished I dug more like finding this site! I have my car at my mechanic now and it's difficult at best to find used parts for the broken rear end because it's a fairly newer model car. I have less than 100K on this car and this being a major power train part should be covered by Nissan! Don't get me wrong, I'm not impossible. I don't mind paying for the labor but the part is another story! It's a $2k part! Come on Nissan....work with me and don't ignore my calls!!! Finding it hard to get return calls from the Corporate Office! I'm on a fixed income and can't afford this type of hit! After reading thru all these complaints here tho...I'm thinking seriously about getting rid of this pos asap...and don't think that I'll EVER pay Nissan another second's thought! I only bought the Rogue because I've owned a Nissan Maxima for a very long time with over 200K miles on it and it's still going strong, with it's new owner that is! I just knew I should have kept that car! Not a dang thing wrong with it! Newer cars...newer problems! Good grief! This is going to be a long week!
