This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Nissan dealer.
As most people reported I am very disappointed in the way Nissan has addressed this problem. I personally have owned 5 Nissan products in the past + family and friends I have recommended Nissan products to, never again. Not only is Nissan an unreliable company but their dealer Service managers and technicians are the worst.
Now the problem I realized there was a transmission problem at 122,000 miles, I took it to the dealer because I was told there was a recall. I was told even though my transmission was doing the same things as the recall my vin number was not in the recall, how convenient. Then I was told the transmission warranty was extended to 120,000 mile but I had 122,000 miles. They (dealer and Nissan) would not do a thing except quote me well over $4,000 to replace the transmission.
This company is so short sighted, how many people do they loose as customers from me telling my story, I read that 1 person that legitimately discourages buyers can cost Nissan millions of dollars. So lets join together and make sure no one we know buys a Nissan product.

I purchased my Nissan Rogue approx. 45 days ago. Having driven a Dodge 6cyl for 8yrs I was excited at the prospect of driving a newer, fuel efficient, SUV, however I am throughly disappointed. I intiatlely noticed the "jumping/stuttering" of the vehicle while sitting at a red ligh about a week after purchase. I chalked it up to not having my foot on tge brake completely and disregarded. This occured a few more times randomly, but pressing on the break provided remedy. Next I noticed a whirling sound whenever I accerlerated while driving through the city. Having never driven a foreign car I again dismissed (mostly in denial) the issue, must be the "norm" for Nissans. A week or so later a coworker who used to work on cars mentioned tge noise and suggested I take it back. I first took it to my mechanic (used for years) he stated the noise was in deed coming from the transmission and that I should take it back to the dealer. I had my appt this morning and they confirmed it is the transmission, stated Nissan will replace it for free and provide a loaner while it is being repaired. I am thankful it is going to be replaced at no cost to me (especially since I just put down a sizeable downpayment on this vehicle) however I am extremely concerned that this issue is just the beginning. Definitely will not be purchasing another Nissan. Bummed out my research didnt reveal more before my purchase. Praying this will be my only issue until this vehicle is paid off and traded in. Fingers Crossed!

I have guessed on the date and mileage that I first noticed the noise, but it was very soon after the purchase. So soon, that I wondered if it was supposed to sound like that. I waited until taking it in for an oil change, and mentioned it then. This was in early December 2008, and car had 7,000 miles on it. I was happy that the technicians at the dealer did indeed hear the noise and said that it was "not normal".
They had me bring the car back in, and they replaced "Drivers Hub Bearing Assy", and to their disappointment noise still there. They could not find anything that was rubbing, they checked out all of the wheel and brake assy, loosened and re torqued everything under the car.....Still exists...they said they would file a report with Nissan Corporate for a solution.
After about a week, they finally told me that Nissan is aware of issue, but unsure how to fix. They mentioned a concern with replacing only some parts might degrade the drivetrain, so it was a possibility that the transmission may have to be replaced. But nothing will be done until Nissan says to go ahead and do it. So, its a waiting game.....at least I have an extended warranty, so I am not too worried (at this moment). They also claim that it is not a safety issue, and that I should continue driving the car as if nothing is wrong.
I've been tempted to stop other "Rogue" drivers that I see around town, to ask if they have heard the noise....but in these days - you don't just flag people down that you don't know.

I was just recently contacted by one of Nissan's tech representatives for my area in response to my inquiry about my 2008 Nissan Rogue CVT transmission noise. It appears that Nissan's fix for this problem is to replace the transmission. This seems odd, has there is no guarantee that the next transmission will not have the same rumbling CVT noise. Also this is a new car and you don’t expect to have the transmission replaced after a few months of ownership. In fact checking with the blog page of the Nico club, this seems to be a problem with many Nissan Rogue owners. I have called my local Nissan dealers and found that all them are having similar complaints from some of their Rogue owners. Ramsy Nissan has had four complaints, Rockland Nissan seven complaints, White plains Nissan three complaints, O’Brien Nissan two complaints and Route 23 Nissan has had five complaints. What is also interesting is all of these dealers have the same answer to fixing the problem and that is, “Nissan is aware of the problem” and they are waiting for a software fix. It appears to me that Nissan sold the vehicle with a known design flaw with the Rogue's CVT transmission.

The car will shake excessively when existing the freeway as though is get ready to cutoff. I have mentioned this on several occasion to the mechanic, no one could advise what would cause that since the engine light didn't come on. Finally I had the someone from the dealer ship ride with me as we came off the freeway he had first hand experience of my concern. His comment was that is bad, you have major problem and his concern was why the engine light not coming on. He drove the car back to the service department put it up on the hoist, and pointed out home the car was leaking fluid from the transfer case. In addition, I had a whole in my muffler and brake issues..
I was given a quote off $7,1000.00 to fix all that was wrong withe the car, knowing that I could not get $8,000.00 for that car I refused to spend that much to repair the car,. So I had them arrange with their sales department to sell me a new car and take mines as a trade.
I am concerned why Nissan have not send out notices to its customer that the engine light doesn't come on for major issues with the engine other than small in fragment such as soft tires. We as their customers are driving around with a false sense of assurance that the technology stated in their publish manual given at purchase will notifying us . This is so wrong, considering the danger of being out at work late night and my car can die without warning is really a very serious concern. Especially since I have always taken my car to a Nissan dealer for all of the recommended services, this issue was not discovered even with them putting the car on the diagnosis machine.
