Rogue MP

  • CVT transmission
  • 149,000 miles

Twice in less than 30 days, I was driving my Nissan Rogue on a hot day and it lost acceleration. It would not go over 55 mph. I stopped at an intersection and pressed the gas, and it did not want to go. It could have resulted in an accident. Continuing driving, I was forced to go under the speed limit. After about an hour, it started accelerating again. I had heard of this complaint before and now I am experiencing it. It happened as I was approaching mountainous terrain.

I have had this car since 2013. Since about 2015, the car has been giving me problems. If I drive it for more than 30 minutes or drive it in hot weather, it will stall at red lights, stop signs, etc. As soon as I come to a stop and then try to go again, it will stall and I will be unable to get it moving again for about 30 seconds. I have to hit my hazard lights and pull over. It is honestly a miracle I have not gotten rear ended yet. Another issue is it will decelerate on the highway if I drive it in hot weather for longer than 30 minutes, going down to about 55 mph and will not go any faster. I am shocked with all of the previous complaints that Nissan has not done something about this. It is a very dangerous issue. I have put over $2,000 into trying to have the issue fixed. Nothing works. I no longer trust Nissan products, and will never buy another Nissan car again after this. I should not be having these issues with a 2010 vehicle. I had a 1995 Buick previously, and never had an issue like this.

It sounds like that same problem for everyone. This has happened twice to us and both times it was on hwy driving at about 75 to 80 and using the cruise control. The cruise control will did engage and you will lose power to the engine. Put the gas pedal to the floor but car will only go up to 55 to 60. We stopped and raised the hood and the engine was not hot but over to the left hand side it was super warm and smelled like something burning. Dealership claims to not have heard of the problem. Two months later same issue driving about 2 to 2 1/2 hours on hwy and it acted up again. We let it cool down for about 15 minutes and did not use the cruise control and were able to continue on our trip. It's definitely something with this car/truck

Rogue SL V6

This has happened numerous times. While driving on the highway, car will lose power. We press the gas pedal all the way to the floor and car decelerates; there is absolutely no power. The last incident occurred August 8. We were driving at about 80MPH; we started up a hill and the car completely lost power; speed went down to about 40 MPH. Finally regained speed on flat stretch of road but every time we hit a slight incline we would lose power. Part of the time we were on a two lane hi-way and cars were backing up behind us. Then, after going along with no problems for a period of time we pulled of at an exit. After stopping at a stop sign when we tried to move gas pedal went to the ground and car did not move-then it lurched suddenly and accelerated. Later in the drive-on a flat ground going 80 MPH car lurched and decelerated --As I said, this has happened before; this last incident was most frustrating as we were on a long road trip and feeling very unsafe.

Car loses power on hills and at takeoff at lights once warmed up. Went on a long car trip to the Adirondacks, car lost power at 75 mph, went right down to 40 mph on interstate 87. Took car to dealer, paid $100 to get it tested for codes, nothing came up, technician drove it but of course because that is not a LONG CAR RIDE it did not do it! Sent me on my way.

Car actually failed inspection for loss of power but yet no codes are coming up saying the real issue. I am afraid that I will be the cause of a major accident due to power loss. Please advise if there is a Nissan Dealership that will correct/find/fix this issue?

OK NOW IT'S GETTING REALLY BAD. ON MY WAY TO WORK IT STARTED LOSING POWER AND I TOOK IT TO THE NISSAN DEALER RIGHT OFF THE FWY AND THEY WANTED $165 TO TELL ME WHAT I HAD ALREADY TOLD THEM WAS THE PROBLEM. THE ONLY SAVING GRACE IS THAT MY MACHANIC IS ABLE TO WORK ON THE CAR. AFTER IT COOLED DOWN IT WAS ABLE TO MAKE IT TO WORK AND THEN ALMOST HOME BEFORE IT STARTED TOACT UP AGAIN. MY MACHANIC DRAINED AND FLUSHED AND IT WORKED AGAIN. BUT IT ALWAYS MAINTAINED THE WHINE.

Rogue Special Edition 360

  • CVT transmission
  • 84,147 miles

During long road trips (100+ miles) car will suddenly slow down, despite gas pedal being "floored" car will not accelerate past 60mph. Each time this has occurred while going up a hill and I fear that I may not make it to the top, luckily each time the hill has been major, but I will think twice about taking a trip to the mountains. During incidents, car will hesitate to accelerate after being stopped. Will take about 20 secs or so before transmission 'catches' then will accelerate normally.

Rogue 2.5L

  • CVT transmission
  • 48,800 miles

The first incident took place on 06/03/13, the second incident on 08/24/13 and the third incident on 12/22/13. All 3 incidents were road trips where the problem appeared on the interstate after having been driving for about an hour and a half or so. The problem was that when at highway speeds of ~70-80 mph, the vehicle would no longer accelerate even when the gas pedal was pressed to the floor. The first incident happened while the cruise control was engaged but the 2nd and 3rd incidents occurred with and without cruise control engaged. On the 2nd and 3rd incidents, when we exited the highway and came to a traffic light we also experienced an acceleration issue when starting from a stopped position. In these instances, I pushed the gas pedal but the car did not move forward, for a couple of seconds, and then sputtered before finally accelerating normally. After the second incident I researched the problem, online, and saw numerous posts with other Rogue owners having similar if not identical problems. I planned to take it to the dealership but, since the problem never occurred on local/in-town driving, I procrastinated.

After this latest incident I took the vehicle to our dealer - AutoNation Nissan Pembroke Pines - on 12/24/2013. I

reported the problem to Jay, our service adviser, who had a technician check out the car. He said a transmission code, , came up in the diagnostic and they recommended replacement of the transmission. However, Nissan instituted a new policy on that date which required the dealership replicate the problem before Nissan would authorize the replacement. The dealer could not replicate the problem with local driving and would not allow a tech to take it on a long trip. I called Nissan Consumer Affairs but they were no help. The end result is that I have a car that has not been repaired & that I can't drive on long trips.

I filed a complaint at www.safercar.gov. Refer to ODI #10559227. I've also sought out class action lawsuits but have yet to find one specifically for the Rogue. As stated above, Nissan Consumer Affairs won't do anything. They are considering buying back the car but is that really a solution?
