Rogue ES

  • CVT transmission
  • 64,000 miles

2010 Nissan Rogue. 64k miles. Well maintained. No major issues. Then I had random starting issues. My mechanic replaced battery. Still issues with starting intermittently. Replaced connector wires to battery. But I still starting issues. My mechanic retired. Ugh.

I brought car to Nissan of GC New York where I purchased it. They had car for 7 weeks. No updates. No calls. I had to call every few days. No answers from "advisor". Finally on March 3 I stopped by and was told by Omar the advisor that they had to replace the ECM (engine control module). I was never called about this or given a price. He said my car was done but it was "bucking". His word. I was taken back. I NEVER had that problem. Ever. He said no worries. It was because the car was sitting so long. He wanted to keep it a few days & have mechanic drive it home to be sure.

I heard nothing next day. Called. No return call. I showed up on Monday. "All good" he said. I asked about the bucking he said it was fine now. Paid over 1k and left. Car started to judder upon acceleration when i was near home. I called. No answer. I drove it a few more times during the week hoping it would go away. It didn't. I brought the car back and Omar denied telling me it was bucking. He said it was squeaking due to brakes. I tried to talk to the mechanic who worked on my car. i had to hunt him down. He denied anything was wrong. Then he said, "Maybe it's your transmission." I couldn't believe this. He turned away and ignored me.

I went back to Omar who again denied saying it was bucking. He was lying to my face. He also said maybe it's my transmission and it would cost 350.00 to diagnosis. He had me my keys. I brought it to a reliable mechanic to says it's my transmission. I can't believe this. My car was NEVER, bucking, juddering, whatever you want to call it before i brought it to Nissan. It came out with a transmission problem and Nissan wants nothing to do with me. Nothing.

I could not properly accelerate on the beltway as I was going to see a family member in the hospital. I took my vehicle to the Nissan Dealership service center. I was then told there was a recall on the transmission. I was not provided advanced notice of a transmission recall but am now being told the vehicle still needs transmission work and Nissan refuses to admit that there are issues with the transmissions of their Nissan's.

  • Automatic transmission
  • 100,000 miles

  1. I was on my way to see family in the hospital and could not accelerate past about 25 miles on the beltway.

    2. I took my vehicle dealership and informed them that I had the same issue previously with not being able to accelerate and it was discovered by the same Nissan service center that it was an issue with the transmission. I was given a loaner vehicle and then eventually informed that there was a recall on my transmission which I was never made aware of but I still would need to fix a transmission CVT issue which would cost nearly five thousand dollars.

    3. I contacted the Nissan Company customer service and my case was given to a representative by the name of Madison who said she would need to review the case and get back to me by Wednesday. Madison did not contact me by the date she said she would and when we did speak she said the only offer she could make was of 60% of whatever the dealership would charge me. I asked to speak to her Supervisor but she refused to relay the Supervisor's contact information to me. I explained that this is the second time I had an issue with the transmission and I brought my Nissan vehicle brand new and it's only five years old. I went on to explain how I felt as though Nissan could not have "fixed" the transmission issues if I am still having problems accelerating and for the second time I am being told that I need my transmission fixed.

    4. I am distraught by how I am treated and having to deal with this at a time I am in an area affected by the Coronavirus.

Rogue AWD 4DR SL

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,700 miles

This car was purchased used in Oct of 2013. At the time it had 67,000 miles on it.

Sadly, I was in a hurried search for an affordable vehicle that could manage my snowing country roads and the need to drive at least 60 miles a day for work. I didn't do any real research and relied a bit on the Nissan reputation for reliability. And for the most part, I was satisfied with my purchase.

In June of 2015, I was driving into Denver, Co and it started to lose speed while on the interstate. Is pulled to the left lane and put on hazard lights, but then the vehicle seemed to recover and I traveled on. Turned off the AC and cruise control, but it happened once again - and then the car behaved without issue.

Stopped at a car repair center and had a mechanic do a quick check. He said it was probably a transmission fluid issue but he didn't get anything from checking the computer. Suggested getting it to the dealer ASAP. I was nearing 90,000 miles and already had a 100,000 mile maintenance apt. scheduled for the next month. Had no further issues and when the maintenance apt. came around, a transmission flush was done. All seemed well.

All regular maintenance has been done as recommended at the Nissan dealership.

Then in the latter part of July 2017, I traveled 170 miles to the city and experienced the same thing to a lesser degree on the trip over. It was a holiday weekend so was unable to get it into the Nissan dealership and had no problems driving around town or back home the next day.

This past Sunday, 9-10-17, I was driving back to the city and the problem showed up again after about 2 hours on the road, but much worse this time - with the car slowing to 40 mph on the interstate a couple of times - especially bad when climbing hills, then seemingly coming out of it and driving normally.

Scariest thing was that for the first time, when I got off the interstate, I had to stop at a light and when I tried to accelerate once the light turned green, the car would not go. Much to the displeasure of a huge semi behind me. Once past that 'hiccup' it behaved normally until I reached my destination, but I certainly stayed on back and side roads as much as possible.

I was able to get it into the dealership the next day and they reported that the transmission fluid was dark, over full and full of air bubbles. Another transmission fluid service was done, along with other maintenance that had been scheduled for Oct.

Again no further problems while driving around town doing my errands. But sadly, after a bit over 2 hours driving on my way home, I experienced the slow down again. Not as dramatic as on Sunday, and no engine whining was detected, but certainly troubling. Also got really bad after having to slow down to pass through a rural community - simply would not accelerate for about a minute after passing through.

So I hit the internet and after doing some reading, I am really scared. I am retired. Living on social security. I cannot afford repair after repair that doesn't fix anything.

Rogue

  • Automatic transmission
  • 145,000 miles

I was driving on the HWY going to Lexington the first time it happened, I had been driving for an about an hour, and my car would not accelerate it, it actually started dropping speed, I was on the interstate and it dropped to about 30 mph I pulled off and let it sit, I had my daughter in the car with me she was terrified. I then started it back up after letting it sit for 10 minutes and pulled off and went to the gas station but it dropped again so I barley made it there. I let it sit for another 20 minutes, and then got back on and I didn't have the problem again.

Well then this weekend I was driving to Charlotte from Charleston and about 45 minutes from Charlotte it happened again , it was so scary my car wouldn't go and I had all these people behind blowing the horn so I pulled off again , and sat there popped the hood, nothing was overheating, and no one was stopping. so i then pulled onto the interstate again so I could at least get to a gas station where it would be safer, well no sooner then about 2 minutes it started losing speed again, and i was able to pull off on the exit and it completely cut off, and then I got it back on and drove to the gas station and sat there for about 20 minutes.

I got back on the interstate and I just stayed speeds of 65 to 70 no faster and I made it to Charlotte. I came home with no problems but I didn't go past 65 mph which is pain when your on the interstate.. I did take it in and got codes p0725, which they are saying is a common problem. I am worried that when I get that fixed will it take care of the problem.

I can't understand why Nissan wont call a recall because i see i am not the only one having this problem. This is very serious and someone could get killed with loosing speed and it dropping so fast, they NEED TO DO A RECALL!!

Rogue

  • CVT transmission
  • 106,000 miles

Similar to what lots of other people are saying online, my Rogue goes 30 miles or so in humid temperatures before slowing down. You literally have to floor it to keep it at 70 mph and over time the acceleration gets slower and slower. So dangerous on the highways. I don't take it on the interstate anymore which is a big pain. I'm so surprised Nissan hasn't recalled this car. What a huge liability.

Also wanted to add, taking it to the dealership has done nothing for me and I've been experiencing this problem for multiple years now. Whenever I take it in, they say the car is accelerating fine... which is true because it's only when you drive for extended periods of time in (what I've noticed) humid temperatures, that the problem surfaces.

Rogue SL 2.0L

  • CVT transmission
  • 44,942 miles

CVT transmission overheated due to the following normal driving conditions 1. hot weather (92 F) 2. a long drive (over 3 hours) 3. driving up highway mountains in Virginia. Fail safe activated causing the car computer CPU to drastically cut power to the wheels. This caused a lack of power such that I could not accelerate up the hill in excess of 45 MPH. The speed limit on the hill was 70 MPH. Eighteen wheel trucks were immediately behind my Rogue forcing me to pull onto the road shoulder allowing them to go past. I brought the car to a local Nissan dealer who confirmed from examination of the car CPU that the transmission overheated and that an overheat code was found in the CPU. They also confirmed that the fail safe was activated that caused the severe power loss. The Nissan dealer knew exactly what the problem was from my description. Nissan is aware of the problem and even extended my transmission CVT warranty from 6yr/60,000 miles to 10yr/120,000 miles. However, their solution tothis problem is to install an auxiliary CVT transmission fluid cooler at an expense to me of $1225. My dealer checked with Nissan and said they would not cover the expense even though the transmission in my car is still on warranty. Documentation of my exact experience can be found on YouTube @ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gG_Zf1eo0Pw. There are several more videos on YOUTUBE under Rogue CVT power loss and documentation on many sites on the internet. In conclusion, Nissan is installing CVT transmissions in several of their model cars with a known overheating issue and requires their customers to install a transmission fluid cooler at the customers’ expense The dramatic loss of power is a big safety issue. In my case I had to speed up to get up the hills as my speed dropped from 80MPH down to 45MPH finally pulling onto the shoulder.

This started happening right after the last recall Feb 2016. was going at 65 mph little uphill (from 1200 feet to 2200 feet) then the speed started dropping from 65mph to less than 30mph on a busy california I-15 freeway. I had to pull the car from the far left lane (5 lanes each way) to the right shoulder where I stopped for about 35 minutes then started the car again. It happened at least 4 times since they messed up my car in the last recall.

Other issue I experienced was when I stoppen on a traffic light and tried to move, it barely moved then all of the sudden it jumped.

I called nissan customer relations to report the issue, but she said I should take to a dealer for check up. Dealers never addressed this issue, they just charged me $$$$ everytime I go to them.

THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED QUICKLY

ACTION NEEDED: call Nissan customer relations to report the issue 1-855-426-6622 (ask for CORA) and get a reference number. Once they see many complaints they will issue a recall

Nissan knows about this issue, and they are trying to save themselves money hoping that they will be fewer 2009 - 2011 rogue on the road after their drivers all die.

I frequently drive from Jax to Charleston. My Rogue has been absolutely perfect until my last few trips. Now a couple hours into my trip, my car suddenly will not accelerate when I am on freeway. I was almost in an accident when I was trying to pass and there was another car right on my tail. I had to fall back behind the car to the right because my car suddenly would not go any faster. No warning lights came on. I regularly service my car. I don't want to trade it in but it is making me nervous to drive.

Update from Dec 11, 2016: Nissan replaced my transmission at no charge.

From the first time I saw Nissan Rogue, i fell in love with it, now I absolutely hate it. I'm scared to drive it on an interstate, because when the transmission overheats, the speed goes from 75 MPH to 40 MPH. I feel like a sitting duck waiting for someone to rear- end me. If that ever happens, I will certainly come after Nissan (if I survive the crash). Nissan needs to carefully examine this issue, it is very dangerous and should not be happening. At this point, I'm stuck with a car I use to dream about, with one that I don't feel safe in. sometimes I wonder if this particular vehicle was suppose to be released to the market. It feel like it is a prototype, not a real car. I hope some day soon, there will be a recall of this issue before someone gets hurt.

Rogue 2.5L 4-cyl

  • CVT transmission
  • 40,000 miles

So when on my 250 mile drive to my hometown, my car suddenly decelerated and wouldn't exceed 3000 RPM on i-70 (in the middle of an uphill climb on a 65 mile per hour highway - barely over 28,000 miles after the first year), I was insanely pissed off to say the least. Decided to take it to my local dealership in Steamboat Springs, and the guys said they couldn't find anything wrong with the car. So, back to Nissan I went, and even more hilariously after paying a couple hundred dollars they told me pretty much the same thing. So, believing it was all my fault, I kept driving and decided to be careful while traveling long distances. Didn't help, over the years it has gotten worse and I had been taking it to every different service center I could find (still no solutions). Eventually, I just started planning an extra 2 hours into whatever long distances I had to drive, because of having to stop every 45 to 50 miles to allow the vehicle to function properly again. That is also when my vehicle, from a complete stop, started stalling for more than a couple of seconds before accelerating. Despised Nissan at this point, so once again I took it to a different service center. When they told me the same thing I had heard for 4 years I realized I would just have to deal with this sh*t until I got new vehicle. I paid for the Nissan up front and in full so I had no worries about payments on it, but after researching my blue book value the car had depreciated down to a range of $5,000 - $8,000. Fantastic, after all repairs, service, and replacements I was going to be at a loss of over 20 grand. So I have been hanging onto it until I found a better solution. Now the car decelerates every 25-30 miles with or without hillsides, but I have semi-adjusted to the lag time in acceleration after coming to a complete stop. I wanted to let everyone know how much this car sucks and that you should never get it, and low and behold I stumbled onto this new extended warranty from the 5 year / 60,000 miles to 10 year / 120,000 miles, but only for CVT servicing. 1) Will this help me in the slightest or am I going to be stuck with a new transmission bill that costs more than the car? 2) Has anyone had this solution actually work for them? 3) I need it for another 6 months, is it worth my time (I drive more than 200 miles at least once or twice a week for my new job) or should I just lease another vehicle? I will never get another Nissan again. As soon as I get my new Ford King Ranch, I am either going to use the rogue for trade in value or burn and/or crush it to mentally heal from the numerous emotional and financial scars this Nissan has caused me. My experience with my old 2002 King Ranch has developed a trust between Ford and myself, and the money I am going to save on not spending thousands of dollars on a worthless vehicle will more than make up for the lower mpg (only reason I got the SUV in the first place). Any extra info would be awesome, and thanks! The Rogue is only slightly over 78,000 miles at this point...

I was driving on the highway at about 75 mph for around 30-40 minutes when the car stopped accelerating and began decelerating. I had my foot all the way down on the gas pedal and it just kept losing speed. Lucikly I was able to coast into the right lane, because I wanted to get into the breakdown lane when the car finally began to accelerate again. The car began acting normal after that until I got off the exit ramp about 10 mins later. I stopped at the end of the ramp and when it was my turn to go the car had again no power. My foot was pushing the gas pedal to the floor and the car just began to roll, I quickly had to turn on my hazard lights and roll to the side of the road. My husband and I waited for a few moments and then the car drove normal. This has happened a few times to me now, always after driving on the highway for about 30-45 mins. I have been looking online and have seen many complaints about this same issue, but Nissan refuses to file any kind of recall. I have owned a few Nissans but after this, and reading all the complaints about the same problem this is my last one. I could have killed myself or someone else if this had caused an accident. It seems to me that everyone driving a Rogue is driving a ticking bomb since you have no idea when this is going to happen. This needs to be addressed and investigated as to why Nissan is not fixing an issue that they know exists. Do they care that little about the safety of their customers.

This model has an obvious acceleration problem. I have had this problem 4 times on the highway. The situation occurs while on the highway driving for 30 - 45 minutes at a speed rate of 60 - 75 mph the car will lose acceleration. This is dangerously on safe. If the accelerator is pressed to the floor it will not gain speed it slows down to 50-55 mph. If the vehicle is brought to a complete stop it will not accelerate to begin driving. It appears if you slowly release the peddle the car then begins to accelerate on its own.

I've taken the car in twice to Tynanns Nissan in Aurora, CO and they have not been able to locate a problem. In researching complaints it appears several owners of the Nissan Rogue has had the same complaint. Is Nissan going to wait to fix this defect after a result of death. My vehicle has 64,000 miles on it and is well maintenance. Nissan listen and respond to your complaints before you end up in the situation as Toyota.

We were on a road trip traveling on the interstate from Watertown NY to Queens NY. During the drive, after traveling about 100 miles or more, I notice the car was starting to lose speed. I pushed the gas pedal all the way to the floor and the car was not able pick up speed. I did not see the temperature gauge go up or the lights come on the dash. The situation did get scary trying to change lanes with other cars and trucks going 70+ mph and I going at least 40 to 50 mph due to the vehicle losing power. Once I was able to get the vehicle off the highway, I turned the car off and let it sit for about an hour to an hour and a half. Taking the car back on the road, it was able to gain acceleration, until after traveling about 100 miles, the vehicle started to lose speed again and not able to accelerate. I took it to the dealership, and they could not find anything wrong with the vehicle. They made it seem like that I imagined it and it never happened. I took it back to the dealership where I bought it from, and I was accosted by the dealership owner and he cursed me out and calling me filthy names in front of my daughter.

2010 Nissan Rogue loses power. I drive for about 45 minutes about 65MPH and my car loses power. I push the gas, the RPMs go up but the car does not go faster - the car will actually slow down if going up an incline. If I come to a stop while this is happening my car will barely move when I push on the gas. I was stopped at a red light, when the light turned green I tried to accelerate, the light turned yellow and back to red before I was through the intersection. I called Nissan and they said they have never heard of the problem. I do not believe Nissan, this problem is all over the Internet... Nissan needs to fix whatever is wrong with the Rogue. Someone is going to get hurt from an accident.

Update from Jun 21, 2016: Took my rogue into Power Nissan in Salem, OR. Eric, the service manager tells me it is a warranty issue with the transmission. He said they replaced the transmission. Less then 2 weeks later my husband took the Rogue on a long business trip. Transmission failed again, same thing that happened before, he was almost in a horrible accident on the highway. I take the vehicle back into the same dealership and they tell me they can't find a problem... It was te same problem as before!!! They never fixed my car!! They cave is a tiny loaner car that my husband can't use for his work purposes and do not return my calls. This is the worst service I have ever had and refuse to by a Nissan ever again!!!

Update from Jun 28, 2016: My Nissan is going to cause a fatality. I have brought it into Nissan to be fixed twice and it is still broken. It loses power when it is hot. If stopped at a light it moves very slowly. It will lose power on the highway and not go over 30ish. It is unsafe and is going to cause someone to be in a terrible accident. The first time I took it into Nissan they said it was a warranty thing and replaced the transmission. The second time I took it in (less then a month later) they said they needed to reset the computer. Now it is a week later and it has happened again. I hate this Rogue!

Driving for about 40 minutes or more, I notice that the car decides to stop accelerating. Its usually at the worst possible time too, while on the interstate or going through a toll. It will start to decrease in acceleration and you can put your foot all the way down and it still won't do anything. I had to pull the car over, shut it off, wait 10 min then it worked again.

Unfortunately, this is severely a problem. Someone can get into a bad accident or be killed because of the nature of this. I see all over the internet there is a problem in many models and it does not seem like Nissan has recalled it. I will never purchase another Nissan again if this is not fixed.

Update from Jul 2, 2015: Losing acceleration while on the highway has happened a few times at this point. This is not an annoyance but a huge safety issue. Nissan really needs to start fixing this issue before someone is seriously injured.
