While driving down the highway the engine started to shake violently. Barely got the vehicle pulled over before the engine locked up tight. Had we not been in the right line and close to the soft shoulder, the vehicle could have locked up and stopped in the middle of the highway with cars doing 70mph behind us. Vehicle was towed to dealer and main bearing/rod bearing material was found in the oil and oil filter. In the time the vehicle has been in the dealer waiting for a new engine to come off back order, 2 more of the same year make, model and engine configuration has come into the dealer with the same problem. This is information obtain from the dealer. Nissan is not telling the dealer the cause of the problem.

After driving my 2023 Nissan Rogue for approximately 1.5 months (1700 miles) I started smelling a gas odor inside the cabin while driving and while parked. The smell is causing my eyes and throat to burn and occasional nausea. While parked in my garage the smell becomes so overwhelming that I must remove the vehicle from the garage to "air out" for a few hours. Since I have an attached garage the smell is also permeating the house. My husband checked the oil dipstick and found it to have a very strong gasoline odor. I have taken the vehicle to the dealer. I was told the smell is normal since this is a new turbo engine, it should be expected. I have contacted Nissan corporate regarding a fix or buyback and was told that I do not qualify. I have concerns regarding my health due to long term exposure to VOCs. I have safety concerns related to VOCs accumulating in my garage. I have mechanical concerns do to the inadequate venting of gasoline and gasoline in my oil. Will this cause the engine and other parts to fail?

On May 10, 2023 my 2023 Nissan Rogue with 16,633 miles on it suffered an engine malfunction and completely stalled unexpectedly on an off-ramp of State Route 28. There were no warning lights or indicators that flashed. My car would not restart. If this would have happened minutes if not seconds sooner while I was on the highway, no vehicle behind me would have been able to stop and someone would have been seriously injured. It was later determined the engine completely seized due to metal shavings being that were found in it. The engine was replaced under warranty at a dealership but given the newness of my car and the fact that I drive more miles to work and back than most people, I worry that this could happen to other 2023 Nissan Rogues that have not been driven that much. A cause was never relayed to me as to what happened. I asked for various information from the dealership in regards to diagnostic reports, daily work logs and so on. I received only a 3 page invoice with no listing of specific diagnostics that were completed on my car. I am driving a car that could suffer the same malfunction and the dealership did not seem the least bit concerned about the potentional safety hazard this situation could have created. I was told by the dealership that the new technology had not been fully tested and this was a risk of buying a brand new car. I understand minor issues with a new car but metal shavings in an engine is not minor. I am not sure if the engine is available for inspection.

There is no other source for this smell in my garage. Friday, March 24, 2023 AM: Returned to parked Rogue after an 1.25 hr appt and found the cabin reeking of a fuel smell. No fuel leaks under vehicle to explain smell. Smell dissipated some after driving for 10 mins at low speeds with outside air circulation on. Smell fully left cabin while driving at highway speeds for 15 mins with outside air circulation on. Sunday, March 26, 2023 AM: Returned to parked Rogue after 2 hr Church to find cabin filled with a fuel smell. Again, no leaks noted under vehicle. Drive home decreased the smell at highway speeds with outside air circulation on, but this was after the entire family had already become ill from the smell while driving through town at lower speeds. Stopped at parent's house briefly and left engine running; husband had to turn engine off and roll windows down, as the fuel smell entering the cabin became really strong and was making husband and son ill again. Noted the fuel smell emanating from all around the vehicle for several hours after getting home, with the strongest smells coming from the engine area. Monday, March 27, 2023 AM: Brought vehicle back to dealership, 70+ mile drive, to have their service center look at it due to health and safety concerns. No fuel smell detected when entered vehicle before journey, drove down with recirculated air on, and only detected a faint fuel smell coming from the engine compartment upon arrival at service center. Performed a visual inspection, specific fuel & emissions system exam, complete high pressure fuel system test, fuel leak/odor pinpoint diagnostic. No failed or defective components found. They were "unable to verify the customer's concern of fuel odor at this time." Mfg service bulletin found on issue; no repair options yet. Fuel smell now constant, whether parked or driven. Recirculate air only used. Can't open windows without smell entering. Continued concern for health/safety.

Moments later, the vehicle restarted, and the vehicle operated normally. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer who diagnosed that the forward distance sensor had failed which caused the vehicle to stall and the sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 4,200. The consumer stated the dealer will not inform her if the part is available.

While attempting to accelerate up a hill the vehicle's engine rapidly increased RPM to 3500 and then down to 2000 and back up to 3500 repeatedly with no increase in speed or change of pressure on the gas pedal. Also, from a stopped position at a red light, the vehicle would shudder/shake when the tachometer reported between 1500 and 2000 RPM, while attempting to accelerate. Finally when shifting from reverse to drive, the vehicle would shake/shudder while the RPM would increase to 4000 all while the car did not accelerate at all, and with no increase in pressure on the gas pedal.

My 4.5 month old Rogue, with a little over 3000 miles on it, stopped dead from at 55 mph on a highway at night. The battery started but the engine would not engage or start. At the start of the drive the fuel gauge registered about 1/2 tank, but after driving only a relatively short distance, it suddenly went to just above the 'red warning zone' and showed about 157 driving miles left in the tank. I believe that the tank was actually empty and the gauge was faulty, because on a hunch the tow guy added some gas and the car started! I was in danger because I was stranded in the left lane of a highway at night and even with my hazard lights on, cars were barely missing me. One could easily have rammed into me - especially waiting over 2 hours for a tow with my hazars starting to dim - causing injury or even death. The dealer service dept was not able to spot the problem (or reproduce it), and because the computer did not show a code said they had nothing to repair! Upon picking up the car and refilling the tank, the gauge only registered 1/2 a tank, so I scheduled service to replace the fuel gauge. I hope this is the proper fix, but the service dept can't vouch for that. When it went dead, the dash said "engine malfunction". I am terrified of driving this car at night or on a highway!!

In an effort to address this matter, I contacted both the Nissan Dealership where I purchased the vehicle and Nissan Consumer Affairs. Disappointingly, both parties have informed me that there is nothing they can do at this time and that I must wait. I found it particularly disingenuous when the representative from Consumer Affairs referred to the issue as merely a "foul odor, " downplaying the seriousness of the matter. I want to emphasize that this is not just a foul odor; it is a clear and hazardous smell of gasoline. I am reporting this issue to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) to document my experience, raise awareness of the safety risks, and seek assistance in finding a resolution. The presence of gasoline fumes in and around the vehicle is alarming, and I believe immediate action is necessary to address this matter and ensure the safety of all drivers and passengers of the 2023 Nissan Rogue.

The smell of gas fumes was inside and outside of the car. I took a CO2 blood test and the CO2 levels came back high. The dealership said a recall was coming out soon. The vehicle supposedly was looked over by the dealership service manager. This began shortly after I bought the vehicle. Dealer said no noticeable leaks, called Nissan Tech line, tech line had them check a few specific areas believe some pressurized fuel lines. Service manager said it is a known issue with no current fix although Nissan engineers are working on it. Both service manager and service advisor recommended calling Nissan of North America. Issue started Feb 2023. Motor air filter smells like gas along with the oil in the motor when smelled from dipstick.

If we are driving and idle at a stop sign the heater (heating the interior) picks up the gasoline smell and the fumes come inside the car. We have to open the windows to air it out once moving. The problem appears to be getting worse, meaning the smell is getting stronger. We have contacted Nissan and they gave me a case number #48234302, but no progress. The dealer says Nissan is working on the issue, but there is no fix. I have call both Nissan and the dealer since 1-18-2023, but for the most part no one will respond anymore. We find the smell a health concern.

On November 12, 2022, I purchased a brand new Nissan Rogue 2023. Within a few weeks of driving this brand new car, the check engine light came on. A few days after the check engine light appeared, the car almost shut down while I was making a left turn at a light. I called the Nissan dealership where I purchased the car and they told me to bring the car in for inspection. While driving on the interstate highway to get to the dealership, the check engine light changed to "Engine malfunction." Immediately, the car stopped functioning. The gas pedal became flat, and I could not get the car to accelerate no matter how hard I tried. The vehicle essentially stopped in the middle of the highway with me and my two children in it. This incident posed a significant risk to me and my children, as well as to other motorists in that we could have been involved in a major car accident. I called the police and had the car towed to the dealership. The dealership stated that the signal between the pedal and the engine, which cause the car to accelerate was faulty. They said the defect has been repaired, but I will never drive that car again. After this incident, I conducted a little bit of research and I found out that consumers have been experiencing similar problems, dating back to the 2016 model (all of this information is located on google). what makes the situation even worse is that Nissan has, on multiple occasions refused to reimburse my $35,000. I am now paying the price for something that is not my fault. Buyers be aware!

Fuel/exhaust smells are persistent while initially driving off as well, significant safety risk as we are not certain where this is emanating (or originating) from. There is a constant strong fuel odor coming from the car, especially when it is parked inside the garage. It is most noticeable under the front hood as well as inside the cabin. The car has been inspected by the Nissan dealer and they have not found any leaks. They did confirm that this is a known concern, which is under engineering review and the dealership is working with a specialist to address this. They have also informed us the smell is caused by colder temperatures as more fuel needs to be injected than normal and thus causing the strong odor. However, the smell is constant even in worm temperatures. Also, a Nissan engineer has confirmed that this is caused by a design flaw, which only appears on cars with a turbo.
