I took my car to the Nissan dealer because sometimes when I am stopped with my foot on the brake the engine will start to accelerate trying to overcome the brake. The only thing I can do to stop this is turn off the engine. This has happened 4 times in the last month and not before. The dealer was unable to find anything wrong and could not duplicate this action. I have now been referred to Nissan consumer Affairs, Bureau of Automobile Repair, New Motor Vehicle Board and now your agency, I feel that this vehicle to drive because it could cause damage to me, my car and the the public. The last time this occurred I was stopped coming out of shopping center waiting for the traffic to clear when the car started accelerating which would have pushed me into the oncoming traffic. Hopefully, you'll be able to help me as now of the above mentioned agencies have been able to help. The only date I can give you for certain was 12/23/2024

On December 31st, 2024, we came out from the grocery store to our 2023 Rogue which we had been running errands in all day and the car wouldn-??t start. We then tried to give it a jump, replaced the battery, and checked fuses. None of these helped so we had it towed to Firestone. The tech there stated he found coolant in the spark plug wells and told us we needed to have it sent to the local Nissan dealer we bought it brand new from. After the Nissan techs inspected the car, we were told it needs a whole new engine. The car has had proper maintenance and oil changes its entire life and only has 61,000 miles and now it needs a new engine due to premature engine failure.

While driving down the highway going approximately 55 MPH, the vehicle lost power in the middle of the highway and shut off completely, with a sudden warning that said -??Engine Malfunction.-?? The vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway and smoke began filling the cabin, leaving me to believe there was a fire under the hood. I evacuated the kids out of my car and pushed it off to the side of the road, then called the fire department. When the vehicle was towed to a Nissan dealership they discovered that there were many large metal chunks in the oil pan and the engine needed to be completely replaced. The vehicle only has 50,000 miles on it and is technically covered under powertrain, however Nissan is trying to get out of covering the replacement of the engine. There have been many documented cases of this exact thing happening to this make model and year Rogue. Nissan needs to take responsibility before someone dies. This incident was incredibly dangerous and could have ended catastrophically had I not pushed the car off the roadway.

The contact owns a 2023 Nissan Rogue. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic for a routine oil change and was informed that the oil pan drain plug was made of metal; however, the oil pan threads were made of plastic. As a result, oil was leaking from the oil pan due to the threads being stripped. The contact was referred to the dealer who acknowledged the failure and agreed to replace to oil pan under warranty; however, the oil pan was replaced with another oil pan with the same issue. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was 19,990.

I'm seeking reimbursement for purchase of new oil pan, $618.99 plus tax. From further investigating, the main issue is Nissan chose to use plastic oil pans in this vehicle. I took my vehicle to Walmart for oil change and company would not complete due to they reporting previous issues with Nissan Rogue oil system. They told me there was a recall. I called Carmax, place of purchase, and was told no recalls. I called Nissan dealership and was told no recalls. I then took my vehicles to Suns Auto and reported what was told to me by Walmart. Suns Auto said soon as they touched the oil plug it exploded off and they were unable to replace. This caused all of the oil to drain out annd therefore making car undriveable. At that point, if I wanted to drive my vehicle, I had to pay for replacing oil pan which was $618.99. I've been trying to get some type of compensation from all mentioned above but no one is taking responsibility. Neither would compensate or work with me on minimizing my out of pocket cost. I hope you understand my dilemma and assist. Very disappointed, [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I have only owned this vehicle 7 days and am returning it. After receiving this car and driving to 35 miles I noticed an intense smell of gasoline in the cabin of the vehicle. I at first assumed it could be exhaust from other cars. I stopped and waited a moment began to drive again and the smell permeated the cabin. The smell made me nauseous. I got home and called my local Nissan dealership and read online to check the dip stick for a smell of gasoline. Pulled the oil dip stick and the oil was diluted the viscosity was extremely runny and smelled strongly of gas. After reading of similar issues with this product I explained to the dealership I no longer wanted this vehicle and have sent it back because of this issue. In the week I attempted to drive the car the fumes did not stop were not subtle and were persistent. The experience was not pleasant and left no sense of dependability with this product. Nissans dealership stated it was an issue they were aware of and that I could bring it in for them to complete diagnostics and testing. I explained that if they were aware that any dealer prior to selling these cars should have inspected these vehicles for this issue if it is known and ensured the vehicle was safe. I feel I was sold a faulty unsafe product with known issues regardless of my safety. Nissan was once a reputable brand if the deal ship was aware of this and Nissan is aware of this they should automatically recall and adjust the issue quickly to ensure they take care of the consumer. I will not consider purchasing another product from this brand.

There is a problem with a tapping noise from the engine. It normally happens when lightly accelerating. -??Nissan Rogue 2023, with 3 Cylinder, 1.5L DOCH 12-valve Super Charged, 201 hp, 225 lb-ft torque, XTRONIC CVT-??. It started at about 11,000 miles but has continued and is now about 23,000 miles. I had the car in for a part replacement under warranty November 18, 2024 and asked for a test drive with a technician to observe for noise with me. We both heard the noise and the technician said it could be a couple of things. 1. Something could be loose in the engine linkage. 2. Could have something to do with the Turbocharger linkage or activator. 3. Could be just because it is a 3 Cylinder engine it is just a little more noisy (don-??t by that). 4. I asked if it was possibly that the timing was slightly off. Technician said the only way to check, would be to have to drop the engine since you could not access the ports as it sits in the engine compartment. 5. I use regular 87% Octane gas as called for in the manual and told the technician that another dealer mechanic suggested trying premium grade Octane and see if that helps. I tried higher octane gas and still making the same sound when lightly accelerating from a stop or turning a 90 degree corner. 6. The next oil change, I will check to see if any metal shaving are in the oil. I will need to take it back in to the Nissan Dealer soon to have a discussion again.

In September 2024 I too my car to Bedford Nissan in Ohio. They did an oil change and since then my car has been having issues. When reversing and switching into drive my car jerks extremely hard. I contacted them to let them know and they advised me to bring the car in to get it looked at. Due to my life situations, I was unable to do so at that time. In the beginning of October 2024 my car completely shut down. I was unable to shut it off with the push button or change gears. All of the lights on the dashboard came up. It took me almost 20 minutes for it to finally restart. I contacted Nissan immediately and they advised to bring it back to them. My 2023 brand new car already had a dead battery, faulty wires in the car, the screen goes in and out, and had an Axcel leak. The supposedly fixed these issues. A few weeks later I am having the same exact problems. I have contacted Nissan consumer affairs multiple times. I have reached out to the dealership. I do not get calls back or help to fix the issues that keep reoccurring.

Vehicle was brought in for an oil change and service appointment at the Nissan dealership the day before and was then driven 300 miles. The following day, it was being driven at 40-50mph in residential area when suddenly the gas pedal became unresponsive and the vehicle slowed down on its own in traffic. The message appeared on the screen "Engine Malfunction, Power Reduced, Service Now" and the car would no long go faster than 12 mph. The car had to be turned off and on 4 times before the error cleared and was then able to be driven again.

Our 2023 Nissan Rogue with only 15,000 miles suffered complete engine failure (engine seized) driving on busy [XXX] passing through Baltimore. The safety of myself and my family was put at risk, and if we hadn't been in the left lane (allowing rapid access to the breakdown lane) we would have been in a multi-car pile-up going at high speeds. Afterward, my safety was at risk waiting for 5h on the busy highway waiting for a tow truck. There was a slightly rough engine sound just 15-30 minutes prior to the engine seizure, but no warning messages. The only message that appeared was "Engine Failure" at the moment the engine seized. The car was towed to the local Firestone Service station where they confirmed engine seizure with normal oil levels. We do not know if the oil had been compromised by infusion of gasoline (as we have now discovered is a problem with the Nissan Rogue engine). The car was subsequently towed to Bob Bell Nissan in Baltimore, and they have yet to inform us of their conclusions after 5 days. Route 9 Nissan in Westborough (where we bought the care) did not inform us that this was a potential problem nor that it is under investigation by the NHTSA. I purchased the car used 3 weeks ago, still under full Nissan Warranty. 10 days ago, while driving, unexpectedly, engine started knocking loudly and then shut down. My granddaughter was driving, and was unable to restart. The Nissan dealer had performed a "health check" of the car a week prior and noted no concerns. And the dealer who sold me the car did the same, before selling it to me. Car was towed to the Nissan dealership. The engine is completely blown and there were metal chips in the oil pan. The Nissan dealership is awaiting authorization from Nissan to replace the engine and any other system impacted. It's going to take weeks to repair.

At 8:00 PM, driving 70 MPH on [XXX] from Dallas to Houston, Texas, multiple warning lights and messages illuminated on the dash. Other than a low fuel warning, there were no other warnings or messages at the time of the incident. The warnings and messages displayed were "AWD Error", AEB system OFF, RAB system OFF, slip indicator or VDC OFF, master warning light, and "Engine Malfunction Power reduced Service now." When this occurred, the vehicle began decelerating, and I was unable to accelerate and return to highway speeds. I was driving in the left lane and had to make my way to the shoulder on the right of the highway. Fortunately, I came to a stop approximately two miles from the [XXX] exit for Centerville, Texas. It would have been extremely dangerous to remain on the shoulder, especially after sunset, so after reading the owner's manual, I decided to travel the shoulder at the very reduced speed my vehicle allowed. After exiting to a safe location and refueling, I called 24/7 Nissan roadside assistance at 8:50 PM. I was told a tow truck would arrive around 10:20 PM, and I would receive text messages with status updates. I called three more times, at 9:32, 11:28, and 11:54 PM. I never received a text message because no towing providers were ever located and dispatched to my location. On the final call at 11:54, I was told they would try again at 8:00 AM. Centerville, Texas is a small town with a population under 1,000 people. I was left stranded nearly 150 miles from home in a non-major metropolitan city without ample resources such as uber to take me to the nearest hotel. Furthermore, had I not called back, no one from Nissan was going to inform me that I would not receive a tow. While I was driving out of state on [XXX], 2024, the engine light came on and stated "engine malfunction power reduced." Immediately the acceleration to the car was out. I was barely able to go 50 or 60 mph on the highway where everyone else was going 70 or 80 mph. Additionally the AWD light came on saying it was disabled as well. We were able to make it to safety, get a rental car, and then take my car to the nearest Nissan dealership in LaCrosse WI. I left my car there and waited to hear back about what was needed to repair the car. After talking to the service manager, Mike, he indicated he would talk to Nissan Corporate and let me know. Nissan Corporate advise the service team to clean the part in the car (the actuator?) and put it back in and that would fix it. This did not work because as I was driving back home to Mankato MN from LaCrosse WI, the same engine light came on while I was on the same highway going in 70 mph traffic. Again the car would barely go 50 to 60 mph, but we made it to a nearby gas station and called Nissan Roadside assistance. They towed my vehicle to the closest Nissan dealership in Rochester and it's been there since [XXX], 2024. Today's date is May 24, 2024. This dealership service shop has now replaced 3 parts (sensors?) and they were bringing my car back to me today Friday May 24, 2024. They were scheduled to arrive before 11:00am CST. At 11:42pm, I received a text from the service person I've been working with stating that: My car "had the issue again. We call Nissan and they told us to tow it back to our shop, as of right now stay in the rental but will be towed back today." I called the Rochester dealership around 2:00pm to see if they had any updates but they were still waiting for the car to get towed back and they had no other information. There were no other warning or error messages prior to this happening on [XXX], 2024.
