While driving severe shuddering and knocking of the engine occurred rendering vehicle undriveable. Car was towed to Nissan dealership resulting in the entire engine and turbocharger needing to be replaced. Technician reported needing excessive force to move the crankshaft, high gasoline scent from oil, and metal/bearing in oil pan.

While I was driving out of state on [XXX], 2024, the engine light came on and stated "engine malfunction power reduced." Immediately the acceleration to the car was out. I was barely able to go 50 or 60 mph on the highway where everyone else was going 70 or 80 mph. Additionally the AWD light came on saying it was disabled as well. We were able to make it to safety, get a rental car, and then take my car to the nearest Nissan dealership in LaCrosse WI. I left my car there and waited to hear back about what was needed to repair the car. After talking to the service manager, Mike, he indicated he would talk to Nissan Corporate and let me know. Nissan Corporate advise the service team to clean the part in the car (the actuator?) and put it back in and that would fix it. This did not work because as I was driving back home to Mankato MN from LaCrosse WI, the same engine light came on while I was on the same highway going in 70 mph traffic. Again the car would barely go 50 to 60 mph, but we made it to a nearby gas station and called Nissan Roadside assistance. They towed my vehicle to the closest Nissan dealership in Rochester and it's been there since [XXX], 2024. Today's date is May 24, 2024. This dealership service shop has now replaced 3 parts (sensors?) and they were bringing my car back to me today Friday May 24, 2024. They were scheduled to arrive before 11:00am CST. At 11:42pm, I received a text from the service person I've been working with stating that: My car "had the issue again. We call Nissan and they told us to tow it back to our shop, as of right now stay in the rental but will be towed back today." I called the Rochester dealership around 2:00pm to see if they had any updates but they were still waiting for the car to get towed back and they had no other information. There were no other warning or error messages prior to this happening on [XXX], 2024. I've maintained regular maintenance on the car since purchasing the car from the dealer - Dec 2022 INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFOR

I can smell fuel inside my vehicle after my vehicle idles for 15-20 minutes. No visible leak on the ground, but fumes permeate my vehicle and have caused headaches to begin with my vehicle occupants and myself. I have noticed after driving and I park inside my garage, I can smell fuel as well, but no visible leak anywhere. The smell lasts for a good while after being parked, but eventually goes away. I made an appointment for December 22nd, 2023 to have it looked at, showed up Riverside Auto Mall of Marquette, MI and was turned away because if the vehicle isn't replicating what I am experiencing, they could not do anything about it because they don't know why its happening. I was told by the service manager to contact her if anyone began experiencing headaches. We did experience headaches at a later date this happened, had an appointment scheduled for April 1, 2024, and was called the same morning of the appointment to have it cancelled due to their "Nissan Technician" not being able to work on it since he was out of town. I was told I would receive a call back to reschedule, and to this day, May 20, 2024, I have not received a call. I have not made another appointment because I have a feeling I will be given the run around again, but I continue to smell fuel intermittently while idling. Not sure what else to do at this point because it is a leased vehicle.

Owned the car since 1/23. Within a few months car died on the interstate due to a hole in the fuel tank. Nissan repaired. Prior to that I took the car in because it always smells of gas. Especially when the car is running. You could smell inside and outside of cabin. People walking by noticed. Dealership couldn-??t figure it out. Googled this myself and there are multiple complaints of the gas smell. On 5/2/24, I wasn-??t able to start my car. Had it towed. Took Nissan one week to run diagnostics. On 5/9 they confirmed there was coolant in my oil and cylinders. Covered by warranty. They told me parts would be in this week but they wouldn-??t be able to repair the car for another 2 to 3 weeks. Said they were down personnel.

The vehicle had a no-start case. It wouldn't catch while turning over. It tried, it had sufficient battery and all operations were done properly like putting break pedal all the way down. Let car sit, opened the door, shut it and hit some other stuff and it started fine. Other people online seem to report similar cases where just leaving the vehicle makes it start.

Twice while driving my Rogue it has gone into a limp mode. First time car was towed to Ted Russell Nissan and they found no code for problem, an update was installed. Second time I drove car to same dealership and again no code was found. The have now had my car for 8 days and can-??t get car to duplicate problem. I have to take grandchildren to daycare and pick them up. Both times the problem occurred I had just dropped off 1 year old. My safety was impacted because of the amount of traffic in the hours of dropping off and picking them up. The only ones who have checked vehicle is the dealership. There were no warning or any indication it was going to happen. The first date was [XXX] and the second was [XXX]. Car is still in shop. On March 13, 2023 I purchased a new Crown Nissan Rogue. For the most part, the car has performed well up until this year when I have had issues with the Engine Malfunction light coming on. Specifically, I get the message:-?? Engine Malfunction. Power reduced, Service now-??. The car then goes into a slow decline of power and the speed reduces significantly at which point I will pull over to a safe spot and turn off the engine. Typically, after waiting a few minutes, I am able to start car without the engine coming on and will proceed home. This is the third such incident of this occurring this year (January, February and now March). I brought the vehicle in for service in February and noted this dilemma. The service personnel did address the issue but could not find anything that they could attribute it to. This latest episode occurred on March 22, 2024. Again, I pulled over and turned off the ignition and called service personnel. After letting the vehicle sit a while, I again was able to start it without the Malfunction light coming on and proceeded home until I can bring it in for service today. I am at the point that I am beginning to feel uncomfortable driving the vehicle because this is the third such time that this has occurred. God forbid that I am out on the highway when this happens. Spoke with service personnel and manager on 3/23/2024

On [XXX], on our 2023 Rogue with only 9100 miles on it suffered complete engine failure while driving the highway. The car had been operating for about 10 minutes, and we had just onboarded the freeway entrance and after about a mile at normal highway speeds, with no warning, the engine started making loud knocking sounds and there was a immediate loss of motive power. This occurred during heavy traffic and was a close call with drivers behind the car. If the car had been in the left most or middle lanes of the highway it is likely the car would have not made it off the middle of the highway and it likely could have caused a severe chain reaction accident, and it could have been life threatening as it was during rush hour with heavy rush traffic and lots of large trucks. Since we were still in the right most lane we were able to roll onto an exit ramp where the engine stopped all together because there was no more forward momentum. We were not even able to pull off the exit lane completely putting the occupants at risk. We had our 3 year old in the car and the incident was very traumatic as the risk of being rear-ended during and after the failure was significant. Attempt to restart the car resulted in the engine attempting to but failing to turn over. Road side assistance came in about 55 minutes, but we fortunately had family come and take the 3 year old to safety so no longer at risk. The car was towed to a Nissan dealership for service. The service department stated they opened the pan on the engine and large and small pieces of metal were in the pan and just fell out. They said the engine suffered a total failure. We do not feel safe in this car any longer even if they repair it. This is the exact issue being investigated, NHTSA Action Number [XXX]: - Complete loss of motive power due to engine failure. Nissan knows about it yet they have not made the effort to recall the vehicle. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The 2023 Nissan Rogue we have as a lease with 9,000 miles on it. 10 minutes after driving it and going on the highway with in 1 minutes the engine abruptly started knocking and stuttering and immediate loss of motive power. Fortunately the car was in the left most lane and an exist was able to enter the exit ramp but the vehicle started sputtering and stalled and would not restart. Restart attempts resulted in engine stuttering and it the engine shutting off. We think this is the exact symptoms as described in PE23023 with these Nissan engine failures. Reporting since this should be recalled for safty and because we had a 3 year old child in the card and we fear that this could have caused risk of death by loss of motive power on the highway and if the car was in the fast or middle lanes could have resulted very high risk situation of a car with no power stuck on the highway in rush hour. I'm thankful my family is OK but this failure was a close call that could have caused a chain of accidents on the highway with possible loss of life. There were no warning indications displayed by the before the incident occurred, it was extremely sudden. After car stalled attempts to restart showed maintenance required and what appear to have been several unclear messages. battery charge was checked by tow truck and attempts to start with assisted power from additional battery made no change, the engine could not remain running it turned over and quickly sputtered and stalled and failed. The car is now at the dealership being looked at but we wanted to report this due to the severity of the issue and how it occurred, especially after reading that Nissan is aware of this particular issue as described in PE23023. I would recommend a recall as this is not a safe vehicle. Out family will no longer use this car ever again for our safety and the safety of our young child.

Purchased a 2023 Nissan Rogue in May 2023 with less than 10 miles on it. Shortly after purchase myself and my family noticed the smell of gas fumes in the cabin, which I initially ignored. I took the car back to the dealership in August 2023 at 4,700 miles due to the noxious fumes/smell. The car-??s PCV valve was replaced for the first time. I again took the vehicle into the dealership in December 2023 at 12,900 miles due to the extremely strong smell of gas fumes coming into the cabin but also radiating throughout my entire garage. These fumes burn my eyes, throat, make me nauseous, and cause headaches. My heated garage has an open flame heater and I became worried that the potentially uncombusted gas products leaking into the air could cause an explosion or fire. The dealership replaced my PCV hose a second time, but this did not solve the issue. I returned to dealership in February 2024 at 15,000 miles for persistent gas fumes in the cabin and radiating throughout my garage. There was nothing wrong with my PCV hose and the PCV hoses were on -??back order-??. Nothing was done to my car other than -??wash off the engine bay to try to get rid of the smell-??. Nissan was unable to resolve the issue or produce any viable solutions, they returned my car to me the next day and after driving it home from work and parking it in my garage, the noxious gas/odor was still strongly present and I was told by family that my clothes smell like gasoline/oil fumes. I am afraid for my health and safety while driving this vehicle. I do not feel that Nissan has adequately addressed this issue and continues to ignore it without producing viable solutions. It appears to me that there is likely a defect in the engineering/manufacturing of this vehicle and intrinsic faults within the engine and its components. I believe that if action is not taken by Nissan or governmental regulatory bodies, consumers will experience serious health and safety consequences.

This has been a big safety issue for my wife and 10 month old daughter. Randomly while driving on highway or in residential roads, our 2023 nissan rogue will start revving hard. The rpm shoots up to around 5000 and the engine starts to lose power resulting in rapid de-acceleration. As of recent, my wife would have to restart the car to go back to normal functioning mode. This also almost caused her accidents on multiple occasions. We contacted Nissan, opened a case, and they refused to repurchase it or replace it. We are stuck with this car hoping nothing bad happens.

I was driving on the interstate with heavy traffic with family in the car. The car engine suddenly lost power and suddenly started making a metal on metal banging noise. The check engine light didn't come on for a few minutes after but it was obvious something was wrong. We were able to get over to the side of the road a few feet out of traffic. We had it towed to the Nissan dealer. We were told it was an issue with the engine block/cylinder #2 failed. This is a 2023 3 cylinder Rogue that has been maintained properly. There was no warning at all. The engine light did not come on until well after the engine failed. We were told an "Nissan Investigator" has to come inspect our car??

Nissan installed plastic oil plugs which when reinstalled can fail. This despite the fact the entire oil pan is aluminum. This can occur after the 2 or 3rd oil change causing the car to lose the plug, overheat due to oil loss or have to be towed because plug falls out or becomes easily stripped. Many place such as Jiffy Lube will refuse to service the cars because they may require a tow to the dealer.
