Rogue Sport S

  • Automatic transmission
  • 40,241 miles

Bought the 2018 Rogue from a dealer. After about 20 thousand miles, I began hearing (and feeling) a clunking sound from near the back driver’s side tire and what seems like under the car where the wheels are. Mostly when starting up from a stop and turning. Then it happened more often.

I took it to Dealer mechanic. After looking at all things he replaced the Electric Control Coupling Assembly. He test drive and noise was gone.

A week later, it was back. Took it back to same Dealer. Next mechanic now says the tires are worn and when he put new set of exact tires on, noise was gone. I was suspicious of this because first mechanic said tires were fine. Yokohama Geolander. Came on car when I bought it. Only 45k miles...highway mostly.

I didn’t change the tires because they said it was going to be $1300. And they don’t look worn. ??? Question: would using a different (more affordable) set of tires also work? Would that void the Nissan warranty?

I’ve had cars with “worn” tires before without hearing this sound.

Should I have Dealer put the Yokohama tires on, and that way if the noise continues, it is their diagnosis and remedy that didn’t work??

ANYONE out there with similar problem? Please let me know... thanks!

I’m new to this state and can’t get back to my old mechanic and this Dealer Service Center was recommended by my new neighbor.
