Until this problem occurred, I had been taking my nissan to the same dealer for the last 9 1/2 yrs for maintenance and any other problems. On this last and final day that I went there, and after doing a multipoint inspection, they found a bunch of problems including a huge hole in my floor board. Initially they said to me that it had come from the inside of the car getting wet and that I had probably tracked a lot of water in the car from rain or snow. I told them that my car has heavy duty mats and that could not be the problem. They take up my mats and look at the carpet underneath to find that the carpet is untouched (looks brand new). They said the car was unsafe to drive and tha I should go to autobody shop to get if fixed because my car was almost 10 yrs old and out of warranty. I go to a few shops in NY and NJ to get estimates. And at each person I get asked he same questions. "Who told you about the hole?" and "Where do you get your maintenance done?" I give them all the same response. Nissan. I am then told by all of them that the hole has been there for at least a couple of yrs. I go back to nissan after taking many pictures and getting many estimates. Again they insist that there is nothing they can do. I ask them why is it that after all the multipont inspections and oil changes that have ben done on my car that the hole was never mentioned to me. The service advisor insists that when the car is up on the rack, the hole is covered by the equipment and could not be seen. My question to him was how was it seen by a technician on this visit when he too was doing an oil change. He says he doesn't know. I called the nissan corporation to look into this problem but they could not force the dealer to fix my vehicle due to the fact that each company is independently owned. They told me to go to other dealers and tell them my story and see if they will help. I tried that to no avail. They either wouldn't call back or told me they could not get involved. What's my next move? I don't know. I look at other Nissan Sentra's undercarriages as people are driving by and I think to myself if only they new.
I used to think those things hanging from underneath my car were leaves that I had possibly rolled over only to find out that was the undercarriage of the car rotting away. Other Nissan owners need to look underneath their cars for themselves so that a few years from now they won't get the same surprise I did.
