A hard to diagnose problem. My prefered repair facility checked and said the hydraulic timing adjuster needed replacement. My daughter took it to her prefered facility in another town. They said the filter (?) probably just needed cleaning. That was $150, the light came on in less than 20 minutes after leaving. They got a second chance. From the bill, it seems they reset the light and charged $100 for an oil change. The light came back on quickly. We don't use them anymore. She took it to a local version of the same chain as my prefered facility. They replaced the hydraulic timing adjuster and a few other tweaks for $800. The light stayed off long enough for them to get it past the state inspection. It came back on soon. Now they say have the dealer check/replace the computer for another $700+. It would be nice to find a place that garantees the repair actually fixes the problem.
