Sentra S 1.8L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 105,000 miles

The first winter after purchasing this vehicle, I noticed the belts would rev up and squeal esp. when it's cold outside and the car isn't warmed up.(It warms up fairly quick, one GREAT thing about this car, when it works...). I didn't give it much thought until one day I went out to start it early November and the blower fan would not come on at all.

This presented a MAJOR safety problem. I live in Montana, we really need our blowers in winter to be able to see and defrost windows. After about 10 minutes of sitting, I finally gave up and started heading to work after scrapping the windows the old fashioned way. About 10 more minutes, about 5 minutes to work, suddenly the blower kicked in and started producing hot air.

This car has been looked at TWICE for this issue now, as it did happen multiple times off and on throughout the winter.(Date selected is approx. the first time this issue happened)

The mechanics can find nothing wrong, as each time the car has been in for service since this problem cropped up, it is in 'working order' and they are unable to replicate the problem.

I've been having this problem with my car for about 2 years now and it is worse than ever now. When it first started, the heat in my car would work when the fan level was on 1 or 2, but if I put it on 3 or 4, heat would only come out when accelerating. Otherwise, cold air would come out when the heat was on. I had a mechaninc friend that fixed this a couple times for me for free, so not sure what he did. But now, the heat only works every other time I turn my car on, regardless of the fan speed. It seems like every other time my car is turned on it's either hot air one time, then the next time, cold air is blowing, even when accelerating. Wit winter coming, I won't even be able to defrost my windows...
