Sentra S 1.8L

  • CVT transmission
  • 69,000 miles

Stay away from the Nissan CVT transmission. Everyone has access to the internet and Google these days and all you have to do is search the web to find that these transmissions are not reliable. You can't service a bad CVT transmission. You must replace it or take your chances with a junk one from a salvage yard.

In my case the car is in excellent condition with the exception of the bad CVT. The book value on the car is $3,500 and the cost to replace the transmission is $3,900. Are you kidding me? 25% of the purchase price of the car to repair the transmission with only 69,000 miles! Most transmissions can be serviced at a fraction of the cost.

Nissan had to extend the warranty to 60,000 miles due to the numerous complaints and lawsuits but we were cheerfully denied by Madison at Nissan Consumer Affairs in Tennessee because we have 69,000 miles.

So my daughters first and only car cannot be sold or traded in as the repair cost more than book value.

I would stay away from Nissan CVT as it just isn't worth the risk of getting a bad transmission.
