In November I was driving on the highway for 30 minutes, next thing I know is that I have no power in the engine. The car would not go higher than 20 miles and the revolutions on the motor were as high as 5,000rpm. I lost control of the car because I could not accelerate and I could not stop the car because the brakes were very hard and unresponsive. I could not move the car, it felt like the car had the brake pedal push all the way with emergency brake, I tried to accelerate but it did not move. Had to tow the car to the Nissan dealer service department. After 1 week, the service guys told me the problem was the outpeed speed sensor. After 3 days of using the repaired car, the car did the same thing only this time I almost crashed with another car because I lost control of the car again and the car almost got on fire. From the engine compartment you could see smoke coming out. Had to tow the car again to the Nissan dealer service department with no result because they could not replicate problem. The car did the same to me 2 more times and this time the dealer decided to replace the cvt transmission which I have read they have a lot of problems and because of that Nissan extended the warranty to 10 year 120K miles. After the transmission was replaced I used the car for about 1 month and the car in February did the same again. No engine power, unresponsive brakes, high RPM and smoke coming out from the engine compartment. Until when will I have to deal with this problem"?? when will Nissan correct or recall these transmissions, when a life is lost? I took the car more than 4 times before they decided to replace and fix the problem. I'm going back again to Nissan, how many times will this time will be" I have lost more than 3 months with this issue and still the car is not working. Nissan does not have a safety recall and don't seem to take seriously the problem.

My 2007 Nissan Sentra caught on fire while I was driving on the highway. No warning lights came on, no noise, just stalled and I was not able to pull off the road. Car was a total loss. I had taken it in to the dealer for 2 recalls (brake master cylinder and airbags) last year, but was told my car cleared both.

Sentra

  • 25,000 miles
The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Sentra. While accelerating from a stop, the vehicle accelerated at a high speed on its own. The vehicle struck a fence, crashed into and removed the side rear of another vehicle, and drove over a sidewalk. None of the air bags deployed and there were no injuries. The contact pumped the brakes, but nothing happened. The vehicle began to slow down and the contact turned off the engine and engaged the parking brake. A police report was filed. The vehicle was towed to an auto body shop. The insurance company diagnosed the vehicle. The dealer stated that they never heard of this type of failure and was very interested in the matter because they want their products to be safe. There are no recalls for this vehicle; however, NHTSA campaign id number 08V311000 (service brakes, hydraulic:foundation components:master cylinder) was referenced. The vehicle is currently at the auto body shop. The dealer stated that Nissan will not get involved with inspecting the vehicle. Both side mirrors were removed, the widnshield was damaged, and the front fender was hanging. The failure and current mileages were 25,000.

Sentra

  • 8,000 miles
The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Sentra. In March of 2008, the vehicle made a grinding sound when making left turns. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but no failures were found. Immediately after leaving the dealer, the contact noticed that the front wheels were unstable. He returned the vehicle to the dealer a week later and a diagnostic test indicated that there was an alignment failure. The mechanic stated that the failure had been previously repaired on the vehicle. Immediately after leaving the dealer the second time, he noticed that the vehicle would stop abruptly when the brake pedal was depressed. This was a persistent failure. He currently must avoid crashing into other vehicles as a result of the brake failure. He took the vehicle to the dealer again and they advised the contact to go to the original dealer to receive any repairs. The current mileage was 12,000 and failure mileage was 8,000. Updated 10/20/08. Updated 10/20/08.
