The Diesel Particular Filter which apparently sits in the exhaust system and burns off all diesel bad stuff was supposed to be able to be regenerated by a particular burn off device. This device was used but without any luck, although I was reassured that the burn off was the best regenerated DPF recently repaired. I am on round Australia trip and towing a 22ft Caravan, I am still stuck in Katherine NT (heading to Cairns) now for 1 week and will have to wait until next Friday to get my car now back to Darwin for Nissan to check out vehicle. They have informed me that the cost to replace DPF is $3750,$176 for the first hour re check and confirm problem.

The causes of this problem I have discussed with Mechanic in Katherine are dirty fuel, past services. My car had a service in Darwin 3/07/2013 (major 80K ) and shortly after this the DPF came on, I was reassured that a run down the road would fix problem and after a short drive time light went out. However after putting van on and commenced towing light came back on and black smoke erupted and torque availability kept disappearing all the way to Katherine, where I was told that excess oil had been installed at last service. (by roadside assist personnel).

Toyota changed oil and filter as was payed for by previous service agent in Darwin (not Nissan Service Agent). I then made an attempt to drive onward, out of Katherine but didn't get too far before DPF came on and same senario started with black smoke etc. This was when I got Mechanic in Katherine to do burn on DPF to regenerate it. I consequently proceeded to drive out of Katherine again but found I had to return as DPF came on again.

I now have to turn around and go back to Darwin to face extreme cost to replace this DPF not to say anything about accommodation and other expenses i.e. (cost of leaving Caravan in Katherine and paying for site fee there) while in Darwin.

My complaint is in having to swallow this drama and expense with a vehicle (Diesel at that) that has only 85Kkm's on it, how can Nissan and other manufacturers expect the public to buy their cars with sort of thing hanging over their heads. I am told that by 2014 all Diesel Auto will have these (DPF),ARE YOU KiDDing.

I have also been advised that there has been a number of vehicles coming into Katherine with the same problem, and I was also told that it had cost $6000 to replace the DPF here,a little gold mine going on up here wouldn't you say??

The thing I would like to know is where does the diesel come from and the quality of it that is supplied to customers around Darwin, and I guess the whole of NT. I will be keen to here your reply. Kind regards Garry.
