This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Nissan dealer.
I bought this car in 2010. It had 21,00 miles on it and it was in great condition. Never had any problems with it until the car was paid off (August of 2015) and the warranty expired. Of course it had to happen this way. I only have 62,000 miles on it and the transmission needs to be replaced? Really?

CVT Transaxle assembly was replaced by dealer. The car still makes this droning grumbling noise. It kind of feels as if the transmission is in low gear. At 25mph. it starts at higher speeds and the sound is unbearable.

I received an update from Nissan, unsolicited, advising the warranty on my CVT had been extended. At first I was confused why I was getting this message, as my transmission had been fine. But about a year afterwards, I would notice that the transmission would lurch or stutter very intermittently. I had forgotten about the email, and assumed that this was just one of the quirks of the CVT, and kept driving, because it was not frequent at all.
Time passed, and the stuttering continued intermittently. The ten-year period for my warranty extension passed, and then I noticed the stuttering started to become more frequent during low acceleration speeds. I googled Nissan transmission problems, and found that this is apparently a common issue with the 08 Sentra. Now I’m stuck with this car, and I’m not even sure if it’s worth paying $4000 US to replace this transmission.
I haven’t been to the dealer to inquire about repairs, as I’m worried they’ll just tell me I need a new transmission or try and sell me another Nissan. I don’t think I’ll ever buy one of these again.
