On Monday, January 17th,2011, around 7:15pm, my boyfriend and I decided to meet our friends in Addison for dinner. When we started the car, we heard a knocking noise coming from the back, as if someone was in the trunk. We wanted to have it looked at immediately, but it was MLK day and many places were closed. Plus, we figured it wasn't anything to worry about. As we were driving down Beltline, we came to a red light. In front of us was an Apex Express semi truck. My boyfriend proceeded to come to a stop, the car got to about 3 mph but would not stop. My boyfriend pressed on the brakes as hard as he could, he even attempted to place the car in park, but it continued to roll. By the time he pulled the emergency brake, our hood went under the metal backside of the truck. The driver of the truck obviously paid no attention, and no damage was done to his vehicle. Ours on the other hand, has 2 dents and a few scratches on the hood and bumper. We attempted to signal for the guy to follow us once the light was green. We even drove in front of him and tried to get his attention but he ended up turning left near a median. This morning, we went to test the brakes ourselves and there was still a very loud knocking. The brakes are brand new so there isn't an issue there. We believe it may be the engine. I looked online for other recalls on the same model and year. This is what I found:

DUE TO A MACHINING IRREGULARITY, THE BOLT/WASHER SURFACE ON THE POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CABLE END MAY ALLOW FOR A GAP TO OCCUR IN THE CONTACT AREA OF THE TERMINAL. THIS CAN RESULT IN A VOLTAGE DROP THAT MAY CAUSE DIFFICULTY STARTING THE VEHICLE AND COULD CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE CONTROL MODULE.
Consequences:
THIS ISSUE CAN CAUSE THE ENGINE TO STOP RUNNING WHILE THE VEHICLE IS IN MOTION AT LOW SPEED WITH A DIFFICULT OR NO START INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.
Remedy:
DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE POSITIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CABLE END WITH A NEW ONE FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL BEGAN PN NOVEMBER 29, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT NISSAN AT 1-800-647-7261.
If you read under the part that says "Consequences", you will realize that this sounds a lot like our accident. This car is horrible. Very smooth, comfortable drive, but luxury isn't everything. We never want to own a Nissan again. We are even willing to downgrade. This car is a danger to anyone who may own one. Thank god this accident occurred at a red light and not during high traffic. Trophy Nissan came out and towed our car so they can run tests on it. They will have it for a month, but quite frankly, they can keep it forever. We like our rental a lot more!
