Sentra S 2.0L

  • CVT transmission
  • 80,000 miles

I was on the 5 freeway on my way up to San Francisco. I had cruise control set to 75 mph to keep up with the flow of traffic. Tach was around 3000 RPM. I start to hear a faint whining noise. I don't think much of it because all CVTs make interesting noises now and then. As I drive I notice the noise gets louder. It almost sounded like a drill running at a high speed. I pulled over to the rest stop and let the car sit a bit. Noise was gone when I left 15 minutes later. I believe it's an issue with Sentras with the CVT box. I have a feeling it has something to do with the coolant. The car never went into fail-safe mode (Deliberate loss of power to protect components) but it definitely sent a chill down my spine.

I love my car and seeing it cry in pain never makes me happy. I tried to call Fontana Nissan looking for answers on how I may avoid the situation. They could not answer my questions.
