Sentra SV

  • CVT transmission
  • 39,000 miles

It was 108 degree outside in Las Vegas. I drove my 2013 Nissan Sentra out and stopped at a slopped intersection. Then the car stalled. Not only that, the brakes stopped functioning, and the steering did not work well. My car started rolling down the hill without much control... Fortunately I was able to turn the car to a street that is not slopped and without much traffic. It eventually stopped. But it was such a terrifying experience!

I feel that the dealer needs to take this car back because it is dangerous to me to drive now, it cuts off in 60 miles per hour traffic on the I-91 highway and stops dead and I have to have it towed from I-91 South bound,. I am going to get killed on the highway in this car! I am going to get killed, I am a elderly woman and I am afraid that I was taken advantage of by the dealers of this car.

When I purchased this car they told me the car was never in an accident and when the car first started having problems in 2016 and it went back to the shop I was told it was in a car accident. I just want this vehicle replaced immediately!!!

Sentra shut itself off and locked steering wheel while moving in traffic. A car in front of my had come to a stop and was waiting to turn left. Wanting to go around them, I put on my indicator signal and started moving into the right lane.

I was IN MOTION, diagonal to the direction of traffic, and not yet completely clear of the left lane when my car shut itself off, the steering wheel locked, and my car jerked to a sudden stop -- all on its own without any input from me.

I pressed the accelerator and brake but they didn’t work. I didn’t hear any noise from the engine. I jiggled the steering wheel but it would not budge.

My dash lit up like a Christmas tree, including the safety brake light. My engine light in the center right was blinking yellow.

I looked down to check if I had hit anything accidentally. My car was still in drive, my safety break was completely off. My car keys were completely inserted into the ignition and completely turned On. My air conditioner and the radio were still working/on.

I put on my emergency indicator lights so that I wouldn’t get hit by another car and other drivers could go around me. I then turned my ignition off. It made a full rotation from the On to the Off position, confirming for me that it had been fully On when the incident happened.

I then turned the ignition back to On. When I did that, the car unfroze itself and I was able to go through the intersection at Melrose and Spaulding. It felt a little shaky and I pulled over and managed to park directly in front of 7660 Melrose Ave. I noticed as I parked that smoke seemed to be coming out of my two front ac vents located in the center between the driver’s and front passenger seats.

I was extremely frightened and upset by this incident--first because my car was vulnerable to being hit while it was stopped in the middle of the street , second when I thought of the possible consequences of this happening while traveling on the Freeway at high speed.

The Car was towed to Universal City Nissan. The service department told me I could have a rental car at no charge until they determined what caused the problem. They kept the car in the repair shop for 25 days and then told me that they couldn't "Duplicate" the problem and therefore it was time for me to pick up my car or else they'd start charging me for the rental. I'm terrified to drive that car, especially since they couldn't determine what happened therefore didn't fix the issue. Made an official compliant with Nissan Consumer Affairs over a week ago and no one has gotten back to me. Don't know what to do at this point.

Engine failed on me twice today. First time was when I attempted to enter an intersection. Lost power, pressing accelerator gave me no response. Pulled to side of road, pressed accelerator nothing. Put car in neutral pressed accelerator and got an engine response. Placed car back into drive and had no response, stayed on shoulder and took out of gear several times before able to drive away.

Second time today had same response when I attempted to change lanes and pass a car. Lost power and was almost hit in rear when I tried to return to my lane. Placed gear in neutral, engine responded and was able to continue on.

This originally occurred several months ago. Do not consider third time a charm

Update from Nov 24, 2014: I was driving "two footed. Just the slightest pressure on either peddle sends a signal to the computer and if there is pressure on both it doesn't know to stop or go. Now that I have changed my driving habits to "one footed" the problem is resolved How embarrassing

Sentra SV 1.8L

  • CVT transmission
  • 14,000 miles

While driving, thankfully coming to a stop in a development at night with few cars around, the warning lights on my dash started turning on one by one every second. After the last light turned on, the car shut off. I put the car in park, tried to start it again and the engine would turn over and then immediately shut off again. My friends and I pushed the car to the side of the road and parked it overnight.

The following morning (Saturday), the car started but the check engine light remained on. I brought it to the dealership and was told there was faulty wiring in the engine harness and that's what caused the car to shut off. I was told my car was safe to drive and given it back. The following Friday while driving home from work, the transmission felt like it was surging while I was maintaining speed. The dealer could not replicate the problem the following morning and said it may be related to the engine harness wiring. At that point I got a loner car. 36 days later, the part came in and my car has not shut off since. The transmission is no longer surging.

Despite this problem seemingly being fixed, I am researching new cars and will be trading this car in as soon as I can. This is the third or forth problem I have had with it and the car is less than two years old. It has spent over 60 days at the dealership total and was back less than a week after I bought it with a problem which should have been the first sign to get rid of it.
