About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
We purchased the vehicle around December of 2021, around July of 2022 the vehicle started stalling while driving; at first it started at slow speeds driving in the neighborhood, then started happening about 4-5 times a week. Essentially, you could be driving at forward speeds of 10-50 mph, and the car would stall, intermittently a message would appear on the display with a warning sign and -€œVehicle Stalled Stop Safely-€. However, with each stall the warning may or may not appear. Then this started occurring at highway speeds up to 75 mph, with same intermittent warning. At time of stall you lose all power, steering gets stiff, and pressing accelerator does nothing. The warning only appears after the stall, so at that point you have lost power to the engine. We took the vehicle into Reed Nissan for service, they stated diagnostics showed no errors, we cannot help. Upon another stall, we took it to Universal Nissan, same comment, no diagnostic codes, so they cannot help, they did keep the car for the day to do an extended check, but said they found nothing. On the way home, the car stalled again. We contacted Nissan Consumer Affairs and we are still waiting to hear from Nissan. This vehicle is NOT safe, and will potentially cause an accident resulting in serious injury or death.

Clicking / Popping noises when turning the steering wheel. Diagnosis bad insulator-engine mounting harness. RPM / idle issues and jerking while driving. Diagnosis reprogrammed engine control module. Problem still present and worse, than prior to reprogram. Cruise control slows vehicle on slight curve, no warning for drivers being no brake lights when it slows. New vehicle with so many problems and I do not feel safe. Unreliability and costly due to time missed at work, paying for a rental car and adding miles each trip to the dealership.

The contact owns a 2022 Nissan Sentra. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the traction control, ABS, ESP Fault, and Master Brake System warning lights illuminated. The contact then stated that several other warning lights on the instrument panel started to malfunction. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was determined that the sensor had detached from the module and that the failure was possibly caused by rodents chewing through the wiring or when the vehicle had driven over a pothole causing the wiring harness failure. The contact was informed that an unknown module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired; however, the contact was concerned that the failure could recur. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximate 93,000.

Case of "parasitic draw" on the battery? (I see that NHTSA issued NTB21-053B.) Car was purchased new from Nissan dealership in Springfield, Virginia, March 3, 2022. On Tuesday, Sept. 13, roughly 5:00 p.m., I parked in my driveway as usual. The vehicle had approximately 8,980 miles. I did not move the car all day Wednesday, Sept. 14. On Thursday, Sept. 15, around 11:00 a.m., when I attempted to open the car door, the battery was COMPLETELY drained. I had to use the physical key to open the door. I know for certain that the lights, including the dome light, were not on. Doors and trunk lid firmly shut and locked. (The only thing I can imagine is that I had a cell phone charger plugged into the cigarette lighter port, but the cell phone was in my possession.) I called AAA, a technician tested the battery, and it was completely dead. (See photo 1.) He jumped the battery and it started. I drove to the Nissan dealer where I purchased the vehicle, and they said they put the car on a charger for more than an hour, and reported the battery tested okay. (See photo 2.) But incident was very disconcerting.

At 505 miles vehicle center radio/control display failed to work also suspending the use for sensors for crash prevention. Vehicle has less than 2500 miles on it and doesn-€™t want to accelerate. When driving and attempting to make turns the vehicle fails to go forward with pressing the gas pedal to the ground. Vehicle continues to feel like it is going to stall, shutters at various times and is unstable when driving as the vehicle does what it wants when it wants, driver is not in control. I do not feel safe driving this vehicle.

We started it one day and popped up malfunction signal and we lost power to everything

I was told that the throttle malfunctioned. I was driving on the highway and the car would not accelerate, the dash said malfunctioning and the cars driving beside me had to swerve around me. I took the car back to the dealership where I purchased it and was told that parts had to be ordered and that it was a throttle malfunction. The car has not been inspected by anyone except those at the Nissan dealership where it was purchased. There were no warning signs before the malfunction. In the middle of me driving the car slowed downed and would not allow me to accelerate to match the speed of the other vehicles around me (70 MPH). As I continued to push the gas the lights on the dash lit up and said malfunction.
