This is a known issue for 2004-2007 Nissan Titans with no recall. The weak C clip is only one issue; the other being that the Nissan designed Dana 44 is not strong enough to handle a full truck like the Titan.

The Dealership said that the 2008 changes "are not better"! How can Nissan allow a known defect to not be addressed when they address other known issues; brake judder from warped rotors and overheating because of a badly designed rear differential cover, or replace the IPDM because of a faulty part.

The 2004-05 Titans have a poor design for the Front Differential. Dealers will fix the existing differential but will not warranty the work as they will fail again. If you replace the differential it is replaced with a redesigned unit that is stock from 2006 on and the repair is warrantied by the dealer. Nissan needs to pay for these repairs as it is a very common failure and they obviously knew about it, hence the redesign. Looks as though the rear may fail as well. I baby this truck but it won't be with me much longer. Took 63K miles to fail.

stuck my off road luxury edition 2004 Titan V8 with no cargo in 2 inched of mud and 1 inch of snow, put it in 4X4, could not get out, switched it to low 4X4 and the front differential shattered. My wife, honda Fit was parked next to it and got out fine. The first picture is the 2 inch deep hole that my truck could not get out of, the second pic is the shard of metal that broke off the differential, I found it after a tow truck got my 4x4 out of my lawn, 8 inches from my driveway, I guess the terrain was way too rugged for the titan.
