The rear seals have been visibly leaking slightly for a few months. I have noticed the brakes feel soft and the emergency brakes are useless. I was driving about 50MPH when I heard a clanking metal noise. I pulled over as it started popping and clanging louder. Had it towed to a mechanic and when they removed the wheels found that the emergency brakes, Antilock sensor and rear pads were demolished on the driver side rear. Later inspection found the bearing was shot and the axle had wobbled around enough to cause damage. The reason for reporting this is that I have to replace both axles to replace bearings and seals since they are pressed on. I will have spent over $1700.00 for axles with bearings and seals, all the emergency brake parts and sensors that were damaged. A lot of money and aggravation spent for something that has been complained about by others for years. Should have been a recall along with manifolds I had to replace and radiator issues.

I took my vehicle into the Nissan dealership that I bought it from for an oil change and tire rotation. They told me that I had a leakage in the rear drivetrain, and that I would need a new rear axle and brakes.

Upon researching a cooling system recall I discovered that the rear drivetrain system is also a common problem with this vehicle, as well.

The problem was fixed because I did not have the money to fix it. I'm hoping that Nissan will make good on this problem and recall it for replacement.

I could use another truck but if this problem doesn't get rectified, I'll be purchasing another vehicle, and not from Nissan.

Took truck in for regular service. I have taken truck in to dealer for ALL scheduled maintenance. All lubrication, oil and filter changes , etc. up to date. Dealer admitted that they see this a lot. I stated that this type of failure on a truck used as a commuter was ridiculous (truck has tow package). only pulled 3500 lb load about 800 miles.Dealer recommended replacing seals, axles, differential cover all for about $4000. I complained loud and long, but politely. Replaced seals only. cost $650 retail. After I complained, dealer took $128 off cost of repair. BIG DEAL!!! I have run cars to 232,000 miles before axle seals failed. This has got to be a design/manufacturing defect. Since Nissan recommended replacement of so many parts, they probably know all about the problem and the fix. I am 63 years old and drive like the grandpa I am. Truck is babied and not at all stressed. Nissan tried to say that the age of the truck, 7.5 years, was the fault. Truck has been driven every day for 7.5 years, with only one layup for 5 weeks this summer while I had a hip replacement.

This is ridiculous. I feel that Nissan should foot the bill for all repairs to make this problem right, about $4000. They won't so they have seen the last of me. I am a physician. I will warn all my patients about Nissan and my problems and their attitude. Please note that I am only 7,906 miles past the end of the power-train warranty.

In searching the web, I have discovered that this problem is the basis of a class-action lawsuit in New Jersey. I have also discovered at least 60 similar problems with some catastrophic failures of the rear end/differential, requiring complete replacement and, in some cases, repeated replacement of the rear end/differential. Nissan has denied all requests for relief in what is, obviously, not an isolated defect. Leakage of differential fluid, which is oily, has caused catastrophic rear brake failure and rear end/differential failure and can potentially cause loss of control of the truck with possibility of death, injury or property damage.

I will never buy another Nissan product again.
