Replaced radiator several years ago due to the coolant line failure. The transmission fluid was milky pink in color. I also had the radiator flushed at a local Nissan Dealer as a precaution. The flush occurred after the radiator replacement. The transmission had been shifting rough and I was hoping that a flush from a dealer would help.

I was told that they would never be able to get all of the old fluid/contamination out. The transmission has progressively gotten worse at shuddering when downshifting or while in overdrive and in lockup. The truck will shudder violently at times. I have since installed a remote transmission cooler, completely bypassing the one in the radiator. I have been told that the shudder is occurring due to the water contamination.

I am now learning that this has been a huge problem certain Nissan automobiles with one of them being the Titan. I'm am facing a transmission replacement on a truck with approximately 96,000 miles on it. This is terrible. All because of a factory defect. Nissan should have recalled all vehicles with this known defect. They should have fixed the problem instead of just extending the warranty. The damage can occur slowly.

My truck only has approximately 96,000 miles on it for a 2005. Obviously, it hasn't been driven a lot. There is no way that a transmission should have to be replaced at 96,000 miles. The truck is in very good condition. There is no rust and is extremely clean. My truck has never been abused. Nissan should have to fix all of the affected vehicles with this fault. This is what they should've done to begin with.

This is a known defect of Nissan's. 2005-2010. Radiators are defective. When the radiator fails--it mixes fluid into the transmission. The mix of fluids ruins the transmission and both the radiator and transmission need replaced.

Independent transmission place has quoted me $3500 to replace.

Instead of recalling the car for a replacement radiator--I think Nissan rolled the dice. This defect will probably not lead to a serious accident--so they would rather take their chances that you won't take any action.

Driving down the road my transmission started shifting hard. Took it to dealer. Cost 100.00 to fnd out that the transmission needed replacement. Drove home without overdrive or third gear. I was bringing it to my mechanic when all the gears,including reverse. Had my 6 year old son with me and we walked home on a busy road with no sidewalks 2 miles on a 95 degree day. Called nissan 3 times before they called me back and said that it was not thier problem. Some 2004 models were recalled for this problem . Try to find a good used one or a remanufactured one. You will have better luck finding gold. Nissan is the only place to get one. Trading in the truck in as soon as it gets out of the shop. Should have named it Titanic.

Automatic cars radiators have two tanks in them. One for transmission fluid and one for antifreeze. The transmission tank has a leak and thats what allows the fluids to combine. Just read were this is a common issue with these trucks. Any person that has one of these trucks I suggest you remove the factory radiator a.s.a.p. and replace it with an aftermarket radiator before the original one goes out. {avoid factory radiators}

If your lucky to discover trans fluid mixed in the radiators antifreeze or antifreeze in the transmission remove the radiator and flush the transmissions trans fluid to remove all antifreeze.

If your reading this too late because the transmission just went out due too antifreeze getting into it,call Nissan and ask them for reimbursment on trans repair and be prepaired to sue them. Seems they dont want to fix the trans even though its thier fault.
