About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.

The rear axle seals on the Nissan Titan years 2004-current have a severe and persistent problem with leaking. I have had my 2006 Nissan Titan in the shop once to replace the right rear axle seal at 18,000 miles and now at 20,000 miles it is leaking again. The location of the leak is what worries me. When the axle seal fails, it sprays gear oil on the brake components (rotors, calipers, pads) and I am worried that the pads will become contaminated and not work effectively when to stop my truck in case of a sudden stop.

Rear end in my new (2500 miles) Nissan Titan was on its way out(humming). Complained to dealer they said that the humm and metal shavings in the diff were normal. Had to threaten to park truck in their showroom through the window to get them to even look at it. When they did they kept the truck for 5 days to replace rear end that was "normal"according to their tech.
