I HAVE HAD THIS EXHAUST CHECKED 6 DIFFERENT TIMES SINCE I HAD THE CAR . THIS IS NOT A PROBLEM WHERE YOU GET ONE PIPE REPLACE A THINGS OR OK NO, NO NO, THE WHOLE EXHAUST NEEDED TO BE REPLACED BECAUSE IT WILL NOT PASS THE EMISSIONS TEST. ALSO THE EXHAUST LIGHT STAYS ON. SO THE SENSOR NEEDS BE REPLACED TOO. ANOTHER $300.00.

Like all the others who had the same complaint about their mufflers, you would think Nissan would want to stay in good faith with their customers.OH well will never buy another Nissan unless my problem can be fixed without my paying for a problem Nissan caused.

I was at the light waiting to go when I heard a cling cling sound. I went another miles when I heard a loud sound, this happened on Friday. There was nothing I could do then so I waited until Saturday morning and had the car looked at. The repair man said the muffler had rusted off when the clamps went into the muffler. The repair man said he does about 20 - 22 of these mufflers per week. This has to be a defect so I called Nissan to make sure and when I called then they said it wasn't. I have no other choice but to get it fixed. I am really mad. First it was the hub caps, then the bulbs on all the lights, now the muffler. Why did I buy this car. Doesn't help that the muffler was 800 bucks and the off the markets had to be custom fit so I had towing up paying the money.

My issues always seem to happen while dealing with a trip. Basically we were just getting ready to leave for a weekend trip when there was a sudden pop and then it sounded as if the car no longer had a muffler. This turned out to be true enough as with not even 70K miles on the car the muffler had rusted out to the point welding a patch wasn't going to work. We took it to Midas and they actually treated us pretty well and we had a new muffler installed the next day. Its funny how the issues on this car all started just after the warranty went out. Murphy's Law in full swing.

Another Versa with muffler issues. It went from no sound to ridiculous, which usually indicates an immediate occurrence instead of gradual rusting. At 54,000 miles over 4.5 years of ownership, it was surprising. Upon inspection and research, the welded flange has fatigued and broken. This will be brought with Nissan.

This was now the second time I went in for a prematurely corroded muffler. This time it was the midpipe. I couldn't believe it was happening again. I again tried to request a good faith warranty from Nissan, even though it was definitely over in miles at this point, but considering that this was now the second time it was happening, I thought for sure that they would acknowledge that this premature erosion was a factory flaw. They didn't. This time their reason for declining my request was my mileage. So now, with a five-year-old car, I paid another $450 to replace my midpipe (last time it was my rear muffler). It seemed really odd to me that the different sections different erode at the same rate. Actually, I hadn't even realized that it was possible and questioned the integrity of the diagnosis/prior replacement. Now I was really pissed.

At the time, this car was barely 4 years old, and just over the warranty and Nissan wouldn't give me a good faith warranty because they I live in an area with snow (New England). Even though everyone I spoke with (including the Nissan service manager at the dealership) said it is really bizarre for a muffler to corrode that early, they claimed it was because of the area in which I live, noting on the side that I hadn't gotten ALL my work done at the dealership in the four years that I owned it (though I had gotten a lot of it done there). I ended paying about $450 to replace the rear muffler because it had corroded so early in its lifetime that there weren't even aftermarket alternatives yet. I was really pissed off about the whole thing because it seemed obvious that it was a factory flaw.

MAD ABOUT THE PROBLEM WITH ONLY 37000 MILES IN THE CAR.

WHY ARE THERE NO REPLACEMENT PARTS AVAILABLE?

NOT EVEN IN THE AFTER MARKET!!!!!

Update from Dec 19, 2011: Had to weld a flange to the muffler assembly where it meets the center pipe. I work at a Midas shop so it didn't cost much. Any Midas shop can make the repair for about $60.

Had the same problem, where the muffler broke off during a small fender Bender. Insurance dd not want to fix indicating that this is a known issue with the Nissan Versa. And on top of that, guess which part is not covered by my fully blown, all you can eat, bumber-to-bumber mamba jamba guarantee... that's right.. the muffler.

Just before vacation my Nissan Versa began producing very loud noise. When I returned after vacation I took it to mechanic and he told that it had to be fixed immediately and it was very dangerous to drive it because of threat poisoning with gas. He had to order parts and I have to wait till they come.

Versa S 1.8L

My 2007 Nissan Versa S has a rotted off muffler. I read that the factory mufflers are supposed to last over 10 years. Mine is 4 years old and as of yesterday, July 5th, 2011, it became so loud, that it can't be driven. I have searched for a muffler and none are available from Nissan. This car is in the south and is always parked on pavement, so there is no logical reason for this to have happened. Where's the recall!

I only have my Nissan 3 long years and the muffler rusted out. My mechanic patched it for me but I hear it going again and it rattles again. My mechanic said that a muffler should last about 10 to 12 years, is that true? I want to know if it is still under warranty?

I hope someone can help me, janeny

After-market mufflers cannot fit on my 1.8 SNissan Versa Hatchback and Nissan has not yet even made the muffler. I am being told by every dealer that the part is on back order with no release date. The rear muffler corroded and fell off. It needs replacement and the car has 41,800 miles.
