engine stalls/shuts down when driving engine stalls/shuts down when driving

I was driving down the highway, my speed was 85 MPH. The motor just stalled out, need I mention that a Semi-Truck was just behind me when this happened. Thankfully he was awake. He swerved around me. BULLET MISSED THERE. I pushed in the clutch after getting whiplash and tried to restart the motor. The motor started but died 3-10 seconds later. I repeated this again and again all while I am slowing and cars are flying up on me like I was standing still. I luckily was able to coast it into an on-ramp. I spent hours in the night looking under the hood, checking fuses, putting my life at risk and that of my family. We were on the side of the road, at midnight, on an on-ramp just hoping that no one was impaired and would hit us while we were barely visible.

I thought it might have been the fuel pump but the pump was starting when the key was turned on. I checked the fuel pump and the injectors and they all looked and sounded good. After thinking for a while I thought about an old trick to reset the ECM I it learned years ago. I'd taken off the battery cables and held them together to drain any residual power off of the system. After 10 minutes of waiting I hooked up the battery cables to the battery and then tried to start it. The motor started and stayed on, I limped it to a hotel and called my mechanic. He stated that it was common for Nissan's to have issues with the relays and to replace the relay for the ECM. The part number is 284B7CW29E. The number on the relay itself is nothing like it.

The dealer that had the relay was 700 miles away. I was irritated. The dealer wanted $28. I found them for $1.87 online. I bought 5. The ECM and Ignition relays are the same but all the other relays are different. Good job Nissan! Two critical items and no spares. I am just glad I don't have to replace the ECM. I bought 5 so I could have spares. I don't want this to happen again. I am very glad I didn't get hit but who is to say the next time this happens the truck/car driver isn't a little tired?
