Versa 5D

Less than 2 months after replacing both front springs/struts, my car started making a horrible rattling sound. I looked under my car and it looks like an entire connecting piece is gone. The sound is loud and horrible, it shakes the car thus anything and anyone in it. And I was literally at the autoshop in march!

rattling noise

Here I am at 50.000 km and already my muffler fails. 441 dollars for the repair just poor design. Got it replaced by Nissan. I hope this don't happen again at 100.000km. If it does this is why some of us choose to go after market because of the poor design in the actual connection if it was more solid and perhaps not designed to break it would actually last the life of the car.

On the one hand I am glad that it broke on the muffler side not the other side because than we are looking at a more costly repair. I tied it up with an 'O' ring to prevent the rest from getting hurt from it being disconnected, just till it went in to the shop to get repaired. If you hear a rattle sound with a different loud exhaust sound than you mite have a broken flange too. Once the repair was done the car sounds really nice and quiet.

Versa SL 1.8L

  • CVT transmission
  • 59,000 miles

Five year old car and 59k miles is a rust bucket. Muffler rusted off at the connection to middle pipe on my Versa. Same happened on my mom's Versa 4 month later. I had 10-15 years with original exhaust system and no problems. Today 9/29/15 I noticed exhaust leak noise again. Checked where it rusted off now and this time mid pipe is rusted off at connection to muffler and cat converter is leaking too. Nissan should recall their rust buckets!!!

Ugh. Only 4 years old. I have shies that lasted longer than this muffler...going back to Ford when this car bites the dust, which by the looks of it could be soon.

exhaust gasket/weld failure, tailpipe loose from muffler

Started to hear rattle coming from under car. After one or two days, it was clear that the exhaust system needed repair. I called the Nissan dealer to book appointment for repair. He couldn't get me in for several days.

Told me that gasket failure in the Nissan Versa is a "known problem" for which I would be charged about $450 to repair at that dealer. He told me that I would need a new gasket and tailpipe only (not muffler)

I took it to Goodyear who insisted that the muffler also needed replacement. Their price for the work was also over $400 but they offered me a 10% discount.

I should have shopped around more, now that I know that the gasket costs approx. $15 or less and a muffler $100; plus there are many reports that it is a weld that fails and can be re-welded for much less expense.

This is the 3rd major repair with this car for defects. No more Nissans for me.
