I am just SO lucky my autoshop is nearby and it didn't puncture my tire as we were driving home from the airport the day we noticed an issue. This was a horrible inconvenience. Just driving it to the shop to get fixed was painful to do. Every little bump in the road sent radiating pain through my body. Now that other issues have risen less than two months later, I come to find the damn springs were recalled in OCTOBER 2015 due to insufficient coating against weather conditions!! Not only do I have a car I am just now close to paying off just to pay for to fix issues that shouldn't have been issues in the first place had Nissan done their damn job.

My Nissan Versa's passenger side front end appeared lower and a significant grinding noise occurred whenever I drove over uneven roads. I assumed that it was a broken shock, perhaps from hitting a pothole. When I took it to a repair shop, however, they told me it was a broken spring. I just read online that there was a recent recall by Nissan to repair springs that would spontaneously break due to improperly applied coating which would cause the part to fail after exposure to salt.

Now I wonder if I can be reimbursed by Nissan for the cost of repair?

I bought a 2010 Nissan Versa May 2010. It now has about 45,000 miles. On 6/30/2015, I was parked in the driveway, cleaning my windows, when I heard a loud pop. I walked around the car and didn't see anything wrong. I live near Route 112 in Port Jefferson Station, NY. The noise I guessed came from there. The next morning as I was backing out of the driveway, there was a loud thud. My boyfriend thought I hit something. When he saw that wasn't the case, he backed the car out of the driveway to test it. No noise, no problems. Then he made a turn. He got out of the car, lifted the hood and saw the broken spring and strut. He said I wasn't going anywhere.

I called Smithtown Nissan twice and got no return call from the manager. My boyfriend ordered the parts for the front passenger's side. We should have it by 7/6 (I hope). The front drivers side parts are on back order. 4-6 weeks before parts place gets them. I will keep trying to talk to the manager. I had to rent a car and pay for the parts. The car has been taken care of. This could have happened as I was driving at 65 mph on the LIE.

I'm scared to drive it when the right side get new parts. Will the drivers side snap while I'm driving? I take my family on getaways, are we safe? I hope Nissan will do the right thing for all of us.

There is no way that a 2010 Nissan Versa should have 2 broken springs. I can see them start to sag after a few years but to have both break and puncture the front right tire is unacceptable. This could have been a fatality if it happened at highway speeds during rush hour. Nissan better get there act together. I definitely will be changing car manufactures on my next purchase with this type of quality. Plus you have to go to the dealer for the springs. I replaced the front struts on my Chevy HHR for $500 less than replacing the springs on the Versa. I will never buy a Nissan again, with these type of safety issues.

Had tire blow out on expressway on way to job interview. Cause was spring and strut failure on passenger side, spring sliced into tire causing blow out. Car was noisy and difficult to drive with donut spare. Cause later identified by dealer. The spring and strut will be replaced by dealer when the parts come in but tire is not covered. They offered to replace the spring and strut on the other side for a charge of $700. This should not have failed on a 4 year old car with 40,000 miles. Why would Nissan not cover tire replacement and the fix the other side. Luckily I was not killed as a result...potential for a serious accident. This sounds shady to me.
