This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Nissan dealer.
My A/C just stopped working, so I took it to my local car hero for a quick charge. I was devastated to find that the entire unit would have to be replaced. The mechanic told me that this wasn't the first...or the second time he has had to give folks the same news. Apparently this is common for 2011 Versa. He could replace the unit for around 1,200, he has to take the car pretty much apart...but it will be the same part and could end up failing again! Nissan should be addressing this issue.

They said they was honing to have to take the dash out and it would cost a 1,000 Dollars to fix

With only 22,000 miles on my car, my air conditioning system started leaking freon and stopped working. I took it to a Nissan dealership, and they informed me, without doing any tests, that my evaporator core needed to be replaced and that it would cost $1,900.00 plus tax. Even though I only had 22,000 miles on my car, I had owned it for 3 and a half years, so it was no longer under warranty. I took my car to another auto repair company for a second opinion who could not believe that my evaporator core would be broken, and was especially astonished that Nissan knew that was the problem without doing a dye test. He said it was so rare that an evaporator core would just break in a foreign car with so few miles on it, but after doing the dye test learned that the evaporator core was defective and leaking.
During this whole process that took a few months I had been contacting Nissan Corporate to log complaints and try to get them to assist me with this. There is no way that this should have broken on a car with so few miles, and I take very good care of my car. Their customer service department actually asked me how many Nissan's I have previously owned...what does that matter?! After months of trying to work with them they finally agreed to give me a $250 reimbursement, but only if I got my car fixed at one of their dealerships....that would not have been an issue if their dealerships weren't ridiculously overcharging me! My auto body repair shop was able to make the repair for $1000.00. Almost half of what Nissan was charging me! After replacing the part my repair man showed me the evaporator core, and you can clearly see that it was defective. Nissan needs to step up and realize that whoever made this part for them did a bad job, and I'm very curious if anyone else has had this problem? There is no way that a 3.5 year old car with 22,000 miles on it should need a $2,000 repair!

After only having this car for two weeks or so the A/C stops working. When fixing it the A/C repair guy broke something in the dash interior now it rattles.

Well this was a PIA! More than a grand to replace the evaporator core. Why so much you ask? Because the entire dashboard had to be dissembled and removed from the car to get this component. Now...how we found this problem? A/c would not blow cold. Checked everything, added Freeon. It would go then nothing. Put in oodles and oodles of dye and they could not find a leak. Low and behold once they pulled the dash...we found where all they dye went. Leaky evap core...sucks.
