On September 16, 2020, I saw fog on the inside windows of my 2015 Nissan Versa Note SW 4 door hatch back. I opened the door to find inside of the car covered with white and green mold on seats, upholstery, floor mats, dashboard inside door frames - everywhere. Car seats were very damp, floor mats and carpet soaked. I put it in garage, emptied car interior, opened all doors and turned 2 huge shop fans onto interior and ran 24 hours.

I took to Nissan dealership in Ellicott City, MD. Had to rent a car from them ($35). Kept my over 24 hours with no word. I called repeatedly for update. Finally late 2nd day they called and said the bill was almost $700. I freaked out. First they checked "Sunroof drains". I don't have a sunroof. Clogged. Cleaned out, resealed, water still entering. Found "cowl drains" clogged. Removed drains, clogged with "heavy debris" (leaf detritus?). "Had water removed from vehicle. No problem at this time." They essentially vacuumed car. No water was really removed. Mold was still visible.

I complained to Manager that no one called to give me an estimate, an update, and no one returned my calls. She agreed to cut nearly $700 bill to $356.26. I then had to then go to mold remediation firm about 30 minutes from my house, rent another car, leave for 2 days for complete mold remediation. They had a ion machine run inside car for 24 hours, complete inner detailing. That was $400.

One year later almost to the day, IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN. CAR WET INSIDE, FOG ON INSIDE WINDOWS, SEATS AND FLOOR CARPET WET AGAIN. It is Saturday. On Monday morning I'm calling the Nissan dealership and Nissan national service line and demanding they completely fix this problem at THEIR EXPENSE, INCLUDING MOLD REMEDIATION AT PREVIOUS EXPERT FIRM.

Every few months I have to use a wet dry vacuum to bail out the water that has accumulated on the floor of the car. The task requires hours to bail out the water.. Even so, moisture accumulates inside the windshield and all the windows. I am tasked with removing the moisture before driving off. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, and they claimed not to find where the water was coming from. A windshield repairman said the leak was not coming from the windshield. The latest diagnosis was from a repairman who claims that the leak is caused by a faulty heater coil. If someone has found out what is causing the problem, I would like to hear from them.

After a day trip and a heavy rain, I noticed the next day that the passenger side floor, along with the entire back, was wet. I spent hours soaking up water with towels, until I took it to the car wash to get it wet vac’d. I was unable to get out all the water, and the dealer where I bought it from couldn’t get me in until 2 days later.

They cleaned out the debris underneath the cowl that was causing rain water to drain into the cabin, and they dried it out by turning on the heater. They did an ozone bomb bc of the mildew smell, which is still faintly there. I wouldn’t have known of this issue were it not for my boyfriend googling and finding several accounts on forums of this being an issue with several years of Versas and Versa Notes. There are some helpful YouTube videos showing where the clog occurs and how to clear it.
