Several issues with my 2005 Nissan X-terra that make it very dangerous to drive. We don't know what to do anymore.....the issue with the trans, that we replaced because all the violent shaking episodes...now hopefully done with. Now due to a knocking and sensor light alert, an issue with 4X4, fuel sensor was diagnosed day B/F yesterday. We were told this is extremely dangerous.....cost ? over $3,000 added to the $9,000 trans repairs. Please tell me what to do!

On or about May 14th 2011 I observe fluid leaking from my Nissan 2005 Xterra. I sought professional advice. It was mandatory that I replace the radiator, thermostat and flush the engine and transmission. It became very apparent that this was a manufacture defect. I then contact five towns Nissan, who indicated that my vehicle was out of warranty (80,000). I did receive an undated 'warrant notification' from Nissan North America Inc which did compromise any extended warranty especially if it is a manufacturer defect. Nissan North America Inc did acknowledge that there was a manufacturer defect on the radiator assembly that will cause leakage of the engine coolant (antifreeze) to mix with the transmission causing the transmission to be rebuilt. This will cost over $6,000 to repair. What became obviously suspicious is that Nissan sent the 'warrant notification' after the fact knowing that all and or most of the affected vehicles were out of warranty. It became apparent that Nissan was fully aware of the defects, hence, being liable for their negligence. Amidst all the complaints Nissan refuse to recall and or fix the defects. Secondly, I do have problems with the emission system of the said Nissan 2005 Xterra, of which, I did reported to Nissan. In June 2009 it was determine upon paid inspection by Nissan service center, that both #1 and #2 catalytic convertor, fuel level sensor and gas gauge were all defective. I had the gauge replace, but both #1 and #2 catalytic convertor, fuel level sensor will cost over $4,000 to repair. It now has a manufacturer defect of the timing chain that can be disastrous, and will cost $2,500. I am most respectfully asking your office to launch an immediate investigation about the manufacturer defects that I have listed, and would like Nissan to fully compensate me for the repairs. I would like you to take into consideration of all the consumers who are frustrated by this dilemma, and have no possible alternative.

Just purchased 2 wks ago a 2005 Nissan Xterra. At first the fuel gauge was slow to show the fuel level but it showed if it was half full or close to empty. Now just two days ago our daughter called us saying she just filled the vehicle with gas and the fuel gauge is showing it is completely empty - fuel light is on. I have been all over the internet looking at how to fix the problem and how common of a problem it is-wow, its a seriously common problem. This is a serious hazard for my young teenage daughter! if she runs out of gas it could cause an accident. There appears to be no recall on this and from what I am seeing, it costs a lot of money to fix this problem-a problem that Nissan should fix!

My 2005 Nissan Xterra has problems with the fuel sending unit. The gas gauge will read at a quarter of a tank, when in fact there is no gas at all. It seems this occurs very often is other models older and newer, however the warranty is only covered up to 36000 miles. It seems to be that most people come across this issue well after the warranty expires. I would like to express my shame with Nissan for not backing their products and putting dealerships under the pressure to charge customers to replace these faulty items, when it is their responsibility to provide for the safety of their consumers with reliable parts. I understand that there is a certain "wear and tear" that all cars incur, but faulty fuel sending units? I can be sure that this is not a common wear and tear item because if it was, other makes and models would need to replace it more often or within the 36000 mile criteria.

Please help! my fuel sensor is failing. My service engine light is always on now and the repair for this is expensive. I received an extended warranty in the mail for 72,000 miles for this exact problem. I called Nissan directly because my mileage was past this and this is an extremely common failure in Xterras and they said they could do nothing for me. There is a Nissan service bulletin ntb07-069B in existence, but not a recall. Since they wouldn't help me, my light was on long before I hit 72,000 miles, and this is such a common problem in these vehicles, I feel strongly that Nissan should issue a recall. I have high mileage on my car because my family lives 6 hours away and I drive to see them frequently. Is there any thing you can do to help me" please"

My Nissan Xterra has a problem with the fuel gauge sensor. The sensor reading comes and goes and I have even ran out of gas once. There was a recall out on this for immediate repairs and one that gave an extended mileage warranty to 72,000 miles. I called Nissan in May 2010, and was told that they were still dealing with getting the correct part and to call back in a few months. I was around 66,000 miles at that time. I had a friend at work who had the same problem and he had it into the dealer 4 times and it wasn't until around September when it got fixed with the right part. So knowing that, that is when I called in since I knew they had the correct part. I took it in for the fuel gauge and front crash sensor recalls, and they only fixed the one. Nissan told me that the fuel gauge recall for my vehicle was only good til 72,000 miles, and I was over that. I don't believe this is fair since I was trying to get it fixed and I was under that mileage in may, but while waiting on Nissan to get it right, from may to September, I obviously put on more miles and it put me over. Now they say they wont cover it. This is not my fault, and other Xterras with this issue are getting this covered, I feel that I am entitled to the same. Thanks

2005 Nissan Xterra 4 wd--service engine soon light comes on--checking the diagnostics code indicate fuel sensor is the issue; a few days later, fuel gauge becomes erratic and eventually quits working; a call to the Nissan Consumer Affairs indicate the car is part of a recall for this problem--except the recall is void after 72,000. My mileage exceeds the 72,000 limit.

My Nissan Xterra has a fault fuel gauge sending unit, the senor went out but I am past the 72K extended warranty. I received a letter in the mail today indicating that if this particular item is being extended to customers of the Nissan Xterra but up to 72K miles, I currently have 75K on my call. Once I called Nissan and asked if this could be extended as a courtesy because I just received the letter today I was not given a clear answer but instead told to go to a dealer have them run the dx and then have the dealer contact Nissan? im confused why can't they just extend it for me since I have already had the diagnostics completed by someone other than Nissan. My 2005 Nissan Xterra's fuel gauge stopped registering the correct amount of fuel in the gas tank. I recently ran out of gas in the middle of an intersection and had to push my car to a gas station in order to fill up. I've found that this is a well known problem, and recalls have been ordered by Nissan, but my specific VIN was not included in the recall. My mechanic has checked the error codes and agreed that this is the identical problem described in Nissan's similar recall.

P0463 obdii code appeared at about 56K miles. My understanding is that this was an issue that was recalled on 1st gen Xterras, and is now a prominent problem with 2nd gen Xterras. However, Nissan refuses to recall.

Check engine soon light came on and dealer said was fuel sensor failure. Cost $600 B/C I'm past warranty though only 40K on 2005 Xterra. There is a recall B/C same problem on other year models of Xterra.. many complaints re: Same problem on same 2005 Xterra on internet. One site documented 116 -same complaint same 2005 Xterra. Safety issue B/C do not know how much fuel is in truck at any time. Called Nissan customer service and was told to make sure truck "full of gas". said they've had many complaints but at this point no recall on 2005 Xterra. No solution. Engine can quit if out of gas--crash inevitable, stranded in remote location or unsafe environment with little or no warning. Error code: PO463.

Fuel gauge recall - Nissan I own a 2005 Nissan Xterra, that is not covered under the recent recall for Nissan vehicles with the fuel gauge problem. My problem was on 04/06/2009, and cost me $443.65+tax to have fixed. I have contacted Nissan, and all I got was "a call back in 3 weeks" response. The current recall covers Nissan "Xterras" produced between January and March 2006 and between October 2007 and January 2008. The problem existed prior to that, ie: My 2005 Xterra. I believe the recall should be extended to cover 2005 models, and that Nissan should give me my money back. The problem was not my fault........
