My fuel gauge doesn't work at all. It reads that I have anywhere from a half of tank to quarter tank when its really empty. Check engine light always on.

2007 Nissan Xterra check engine light showing error code P0463 (fuel level sensor was malfunctioning). Occurs each time I go to the gas station and fill the tank. Gauge stays on empty for several days and sometimes drops to empty and the "tank empty" light comes on. After several days of driving the gauge will move back to a higher position.

2007 Nissan Xterra - faulty fuel sensor in the tank, causing the fuel gauge to not work properly. The fuel gauge never reads the correct amount of fuel - I have now run out of gas twice. Nissan said I was responsible for the $500 repair even thought this same part has been recalled on the 2006 and 2008 models but not the 2007 Xterra.

My Nissan Xterra is having the fuel gauge problem with the fuel level sending unit. At this time its intermittent. I called Nissan and filed a complaint with them they ran my vehicle id # that doesn't show up as one having this problem. They want me to pay for a diagnostic check for the fuel level sending unit and repair. This is a recall item. I was mail a notification R1010 10V-074.

Details of problem: Vehicle indicates that gas is remaining in tank(ie. Fuel indicator registers that 1/2 tank is remaining, when in fact gas tank is empty. Internet search has revealed that this is a very common complaint of Nissan Xterra owners (2006 through to 2008) and that the company has been installing a faulty fuel sensor in their vehicles for an extended time period. This poses a serious safety hazard on our freeways when the problem first shows itself. (ie. The potential for vehicles stalling out on the freeway due to the uninformed owners lack of awareness that they are running on an empty gas tank!) my attempt to address the problem: I discussed the problem with Nissan Consumer Affairs North America, and Nissan Canada. I discovered that the company has issued a recall of specific vehicle #'s in the 2006 and 2008 product line. My internet research into consumer complaints about the problem indicates that this specific complaint is much more widespread than Nissan is willing to admit. I inquired with Nissan Canada (Wednesday, July 14) to see if there was another avenue through which I could refer this safety problem to Nissan, but the receptionist assured me that I had no further recourse.

Fuel system, gasoline- I called the Nissan consumer line and gave them the information in regards to the fuel system issue. They stated that initially that my vehicle wasn't part of the recall based on my ven# for my 2007 Xterra. However, they had me go thru the steps of going to a certified dealership to obtain a diagnostic to confirm that I was having the same problem. After all the work done on this end, Nissan stated they would not be responsible for cover the part...even though it is a known issue with their cars the cost is min $400 and I do not have those type of funds readily available as a single mother. I recently ran out of gas on a major highway with my two kids. Blessed that I was able to pull over in a timely manner without causing an accident or being in one. Nissan needs to take ownership and responsibility for their cars as this is a safety issue and can cause damage to the driver and their family as well as others.

Went to the gas station to fill up my 2007 Nissan Xterra. Afterward, the fuel gauge read 3/4 full instead of 100% full, then a few minutes later dropped below "E" and the "service engine soon" light came on. A simple internet search informed me that this is a very common problem with not only 2007 Nissan Xterras, but other years as well, due to a faulty part used by Nissan in the fuel sending unit. I had the error code pulled (P0463) and it came back to the fuel sending unit. Nissan has a technical service bulletin for this code, so they are fully aware of the problem, what the cause of the problem is, and what is necessary to fix it. My car stalled on the freeway the other day in the number two lane, thanks to the fuel sending unit not working properly. I had four children in my car at the time. Luckily, there was quite a bit of traffic so the danger level was low considering we were on the freeway, however if we were not in traffic, things would have been much more serious. Nissan claims that this is not a safety issue and will therefore not issue a recall, however I strongly disagree and feel that my recent experience proves that a faulty fuel sending unit is a safety issue. I was told by a service rep at my dealership that all 2007S were initially a part of the most recent recall for replacing fuel sending units, however Nissan changed the recall to only include certain 2007 Xterra VIN #S, yet 2006 and 2008 models are a part of the recall. Since the recall began, I've been receiving letters every month from my dealership offering to buy the car back from me. This does not sit well with me.

The contact owns a 2007 Nissan Xterra. While driving at approximately 55 mph, the check engine warning light illuminated. The fuel level gauge dropped from three quarters full to indicate there was only one quarter full. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer for diagnostic testing or repairs. The failure mileage was 43,000 and the current mileage was 45,000.

I have a 2007 Nissan Xterra. My fuel sending unit has failed resulting in failure of my fuel gauge. At times the gauge will show no gas at all, and at other times it will stick at partially full. The gauge is never accurate. This presents an enormous safety problem as the chance of running out of gas on a highway or interstate is greatly increased. This exact same issue was deemed a safety hazard that resulted in recall on Xterra models before and after 2007, as well as other Nissan models made in 2007. If it is a safety hazard for those vehicles, it is a safety hazard for a 2007 Xterra!

My 2007 Nissan Xterra has a fuel gauge that does not go to full after the tank is filled. The gauge drops to empty and the fuel indicator light goes on indicating low fuel. In addition, the service engine soon message indicator light goes on. This could cause the vehicle to run out of gas and stall in traffic, increasing the risk of crash. There currently is a recall on the 2006 and 2008 models (NHTSA #10V075000) related to a faulty fuel sender float arm causing the instrument panel to mislead. This is very common as there are many complaints of the same issue.

The 2007 Nissan Xterra that was purchased for my sons has had a gas gauge that never recorded properly. This has been an ongoing problem that my sons have noticed from the beginning. First they wondered about it...and then said something to us. We notified the dealership, notified them again, and again, and again (I think you get the story) and finally after a couple of years, one sales serviceman said "yes others have the same problem". the replaced the gauge and then requested that I come back when the fuel tank was really empty to replace something in the tank. I did both these things. We haven't noticed a problem since but all boys are in college without the car. Our car also isn't one of the cars being recalled for anything...it's the same year but it is when the car was manufactured. I called Nissan many, many times. Unresponsive reps and had a few senior people call me after my numerous attempts, said they mailed me something about one item that was recalled. I said that I never received anything and they wouldn't resend it. I will never buy another Nissan vehicle again. Our other vehicles are a 2008 Suburban and a 2008 300 Mercedes. Less problems with both. Nissan people if you are reading this...your customer service stinks. Btw the original dealership by my house went under and closed...family Nissan..bought car at el monte because it had the car I wanted and at a better price.

I have a 2007 Nissan Xterra S 2wd, and my wife has noticed problems after she fills the fuel tank. The gauge will sometimes take longer than 24 hours to reach full. Other times it will not reach full, and she has to gauge her filling the tank by the amount of mile she drives.

On or about May 20, 2010 I had 1/4 tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up the gas tank, I turned on the truck and the gas needle did not register as being full. The service engine light came on. I drove about 70 miles and it finally went up to the full mark, but the "ses" light did not go out. About a week later, when I filled the gas tank, I turned the engine on and the needle went to below the "E" mark and the reserve light came on as well as the "ses" light. I took the truck to the Nissan dealer and was told that it was the fuel sending unit/sensor and that it would cost about $400 to repair. I was also informed at that time that there is a nation wide backorder on the part that is needed and they had no idea when the part would be in stock. I was also told that there has been a recall for this problem but it does not include my year of vehicle. I own a 2007 Xterra with aprox. 38,000 miles.

However, my model/VIN is not covered. How can a recall be allowed to skip from one VIN to another if the same part number is used?

Nissan Xterra 2007 model 1. no specific "event". at roughly 57,000 miles, check engine light came on and fuel gauge stopped working intermittently (shows empty). Is getting worse over time. 2. occurs every time vehicle is filled. Consequence: Do not know how much fuel is in vehicle. 3. not corrected at this time. Same problem as recent recall on Nissan titan, etc.

Filled my vehicle with fuel, and I noticed that the fuel level gage read empty, after I had put 17 gallons of fuel in it. This occurred when the vehicle had about 55,000 miles on the odometer. The fuel gage has become increasingly unreliable, reading empty when full; this has caused me to run out of fuel on two occasions. As the check engine light remains on, my vehicle will not pass the safety inspection with the check engine light on. This is obviously a defective part; Nissan will charge about $400 plus tax to fix this problem. This is a pervasive problem for Nissan; I have a friend who also owns the same vehicle; his failed at the same odometer reading. Automotive websites where consumers discuss Nissan vehicles are filled with complaints about this problem.

"I had 1/4 of a tank of gas and went to fill up. After filling up my gas tank, I turned on the car, at which point the needle did not register the full tank. After driving a couple miles, the check engine light came on. After returning home and doing research, I went online to X.nissanhelp.com after performing a search, I came across many others who have experienced the same problem. Apparently it has something to do with the fuel sending unit. A similar problem was found on the 2000-2004 Xterra models and a recall was performed when the vehicle would stop after not getting any fuel, posing a great danger. It seems that something in the unit is faulty and will corrode over time. There is a general consensus that everyone who is having the problem is experiencing the same thing after having the vehicle for over 2 yrs and with around 39K-49K. If this problem existed in previous models, and it was recalled, the 2005-2007 Xterras, frontiers, and pathfinders should get this fixed at no charge to the customer!! why wait for accidents and possible deaths, especially since the problem lies in an integral part of the vehicle. Cost of repair ranges from $300-600."
