I purchased my 2008 Nissan Xterra used so I’m the second owner. When I purchased it, it only had 36,000 and it was certified. Driving the car through the summer I noticed nothing wrong, however when the colder temperatures hit, I noticed a cold knock. The engine knocks when it’s cold and then goes away after 5-10 minutes of letting the vehicle warm up.

Because it’s certified, I took it to the dealership and they could not find anything wrong with it. I’ve had it in twice and they told me it was just the fuel injectors the first time. The second time they told me if I hear the knocking when it’s cold then I should just let the car warm up before driving it. They also said my warranty is good for 100K so just drive it until it knocks all the time. Wow, great customer service! Drive it until it fails while you’re out of town on vacation.

The vehicle is in its second winter (with me) and of course the knock is getting worse. I love the look of the xterra but I will never purchase another Nissan as long as I live. Bottom line is that all cars have issues but it’s how the dealerships handle the issues that separates the men from the others. Looks like I might be going back to Ford…
