Can't believe this happened! My husband took his 99 Olds Alero to get gas, and in his haste, he inserted his truck key in the ignition when he was through. Well, it shut the ignition down completely! No blinking lights with a waiting time to "try again", no second chances, do not pass go but call the tow truck instead. We followed the instructions in the manual, but to no avail. It was DRT (dead right there). So the first step was to have towed to our home (2 miles away) as it was on a Sunday ($65). Second step was to call the closest GM Dealer to make arrangements for having it towed to them ($55). Two days later, we have the car back and our bank account is $800 lighter. Yep, that's right...$806.50 to be exact. $360 for labor and the rest is for cylinder and switch. We probably got ripped off big-time, but what are you gonna do when they have the car? Pay another $65 to have it towed elsewhere....? We are very pissed off! I will NEVER own another GM product. Basically we paid $1000 for that tank of gas. This car is a POS and hopefully we can trade it in on a foreign model very soon. Besides all that, it is uncomfortable as hell, makes all kinds of noises and grunts and groans, and it only has 53,000 miles on it! Okay...I feel a little better. Maybe SOMEONE will read this and steer away from GM....hope so.
