The contact owns a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero. While driving approximately 40 mph on normal road conditions, the turn signal indicator sounded without assistance. The clicking noise remained until the engine was turned off. Recently, smoke appeared from the steering column and a burning odor was present. The VIN was not included in NHTSA campaign id number 03V327000 (exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch), although the failures were identical. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 120,000 and current mileage was 122,000. Updated 12/10/08 updated 12/17/08.

The contact owns a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero. The interior, hazard, and fog lights malfunctioned. The manufacturer would not repair the vehicle under NHTSA campaign id 03V327000 (exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch) because the switch was previously replaced under the same recall. The failure mileage was 89,000 and current mileage was 100,000.

Hard starting. Vehicle just keeps on cranking but does not start unless you pump accelerator several times. This happens daily, - every time you attempt to start the vehicle. We also have a problem with the hazard warning switch and directional lights, - police flashed me down and gave verbal warning.

The contact owns a 2001 Oldsmobile Alero. The contact stated that the turn signals would not illuminate when the switch was engaged. The dealer was unable to duplicate the failure on two different occasions, but was able to on the third occasion. The dealer stated that the hazard flasher switch needed to be replaced and informed the contact that her VIN was excluded from recall number 03V327000 (exterior lighting:hazard flashing warning lights:switch). The speed was unknown. The failure mileage was 61,000 and current mileage was 71,000.

I was switching lanes and flashed my turn signal to switch lane. When I let go of the turn signal, the relay behind the hazard light button started to click like the turn signal was still on. This is an intermittent click and is not consistent. Sometimes it clicks fast and sometimes it clicks slow. I found recall 03V327000 and thought this was the problem. The dealership performed this recall and the click is still occurring. I have read that there has been issues with multi-function switches in other GM vehicles which causes a clicking of the hazard light button. Also, the key is getting warm when it is in the ignition. I am afraid this constant clicking of the relay will cause the turn signals from working which could result in an accident.

: the contact stated the failure of the hazard warning switch caused the turn signals/hazard lights to work intermittently and randomly. A NHTSA recall, # 03V327000 was performed on the vehicle on 2001 prior to his ownership. The recall was concerning the exterior lighting: Hazard flashing warning lights: Switch, however the recall did not remedy the problem. The dealership would not offer a second repair under the recall. Updated 10/25/2006 - the vehicle had a three year history of the turn signals failing intermittently. While doing research the consumer found information on the hazard switch recall.

On my 2001 Oldsmobile Alero, the turn signal/hazard light becomes intermittent and/or inoperative during temperature variations. The dealer and General Motors refuse to replace without cost because this vehicle is apparently not included in GM recall no. 03043.

Turn signals stop working intermittently, no warning that they will not work. I have pushed the hazard button in and out and this sometimes helps. Very dangerous, I have gone miles out of my way because I can't make a turn safely without being able to signal.

My 2001 Oldsmobile Alero had numerous failures of the turn signals and hazard warning flasher. Both systems either worked or failed simultaneously. The failures appeared to be random, I.e., there was no particular pattern. I became aware of a recall (NHTSA: 03V327000) and contacted the manufacturer, who informed me that my vehicle isn't one affected based on its VIN.

My 2001 Oldsmobile Alero turn signals intermittently become inoperable.
- Port St Lucie, FL, USA
The contact stated the turn signals and hazard flashing warning light switch worked intermittently. NHTSA recall 03V327000 was issued for this problem. However, this vehicle was not included in the recall due to VIN according to the dealership and the manufacturer. Updated 02/13/06.

Turn signals will work one time and then not the next.

Recall 03V327000 concerning hazard warning switch. The turn signals/hazard lamps became inoperative while driving at any speed. Dealer was notified, and replaced the hazard switch. Consumer was concerned that she did not receive this recall notice.
- Appleton, WI, USA
The technician informed the consumer about a recall on the vehicle, but the consumer never received a notice from the manufacturer. The vehicle would not start right away. There would be several tries but the vehicle would never "crank over." The engine vibrated when the A/C was used, the fuel gauge was inoperative, the front windows would not roll down, the rear handles felt like they were sticking, there was a burnt oil smell, and after several times of starting the vehicle it would run rough. The master switch, A/C compressor, crank sensor, fuel pump, fuel tank, hazard switch, and the window regulator were replaced. The mechanics repositioned a wire harness from the crank sensor and replaced the pressure control solenoid. The turn signals stopped working in traffic in which there was almost an accident. The antenna was replaced because the radio signal would go out every time the rear defroster was used (this did not solve the problem). The back window had to be completely replaced to solve the antenna problem. The water pump was replaced because the seal for the coolant leaked.

Turn signal and four way flashers failed intermittently. Dealer stated flasher unit needed to be replaced. The turn signals worked only 50% of the time since purchase. The hazard lights never worked. Dealer stated the vehicle should had been bought in before 10,000 miles. Consumer was quoted $250 dollars to repair the turn signals and flashers. The service manager informed the consumer that the hazard lights, turn signal and back up lights are in one unit. So when one fails, they all fail.

I recently read of the hazard light/turn signal recall on 2001 Oldsmobile Alero. My vehicle has this defect and is a serious safety concern. I contacted Oldsmobile and was told that my vehicle even though it has this effect is not covered by the recall. If they are doing a recall my vehicle should be covered considering their company has placed the life of my family in danger.
