About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
The front driver seat is leaning back and we can not adjust it back to an upright positon. About 4 years ago we had the same problem and found the meatl chaisis for the seat was defective. I am concerned that if we got into an accident that the seat is basicly useless and would not absorb any impact. Is Chrysler doing anyhting the defective seats or replacing them?

My husband was injured when we were rear-ended by another vehicle. The height of the seat back is too low to provide protection from whiplash. It bothers me that the seat design remains unchanged in the 2002 models. There should be adjustable head restraints for all passenger seats.

Accident occurred on freeway in spokane, wa. Traffic was stopped in my lane. I was hit in right rear corner after I had come to complete stop. This caused us to be thrown counterclockwise and forward. My wife's seatback gave way, causing her to fall backwards and striking her head on the sliding door window. This shattered the window, fortunately only causing my wife neck and back strain, and not cutting her at all. Upon contacting the manufacturer, we were told the seat mechanism did not break, but bent which is what they said is as designed to prevent neck and back injuries. This is exactly the type of injury my wife sustained. A copy of the letter from the manufacturer is availble.
