About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Air conditioner failed, needs new condenser took in for air conditioner repair, mechanic found rusted strut towers and rust through on plate on driver's side. Recommended vehicle unsafe to drive. Mechanic said even if it could be repaired, he would recommend "scrapping" the car as he wouldn't want his family driving something like that. Vehicle was purchased new in 1999. It is a 1998 Plymouth Grand Voyager, espresso. It has fairly high miles (150,000), but should not have rusted through in only six years!!!!!

The headlight assembly has become very cloudy significantly reducing visibility at night thereby creating a safety hazard. I work in the automotive textile fabric division of a company that does business with Chrysler, as well as other mfg. And our fabrics must meet stringent lightfastness requirements as specified by the oem. (by the way the seats look great) the plastics industry should be subject to even higher requirements as this poses a significant safety hazard. I consider Chrysler liable for not having stringent enough requirments to prohibit this from happening. Just think $ 550 to fix this, replace headlight assembly is obsurd when the manufacture didn't do their homework!!

It is June of 2003 and the car is currently in the shop again for the transmission problem. It has had a power steering pump failure, serpentine belt failure times 5 and now a computer problem. I have contacted chrystler Corp at least 5 times regarding the problems with this car. Their answer is well, if you don't like the care trade it in.

I was changing my front driver's side tire in my driveway using the jack supplied with my 1998 Plymouth Voyager. I had just removed the tire when the "jack screw" snapped in half. The van fell towards me, hitting me and knocking me backwards onto the pavement. The force of the impact caused me to break a molar in half requiring a cap to repair it. Since then I have also experienced occasional blurred vision. I contacted daimler Chrysler Corp. Via their internet site on 02/10/03. I did not ever speak to a csr until 02/18/03. I was told that Chrysler had reviewed my complaint and determined that the injuries were not a direct result of the defective jack and refused to assist me with my dental bills. Further more they said my car was out of warranty, so they could not even replace my jack. I am an engineer by profession and thought they might want to analyze the failure, but I was told that since they have never heard of this happening before, they did not feel that it was a major issue. I was lucky that my injuries only involved a tooth and blurred vision. The next time somebody might be crushed.

Tensioner freezes up and has to be replaced. This has happened twice in one year. Each of the two different dealers charged me different amounts, one charged $106 and the other charged $275. I have been told this can be very dangerous by the dealer and needs to be fixed. I wonder why then if it is so dangerous and so many people are having the same problem it has not been recalled.
