About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
On several occasions, I noticed the seatbelt holding my son's carseat in place had come unlatched. To the best of my knowledge, nothing was done to cause it to open. I own a 2000 Plymouth Grand Voyager and recently read that apparently, this is a problem with my vehicle and its generation 3 seatbelts. I contacted a dealer this morning to request replacement of the 7 seatbelts and was told they don't do that. I was asked if there was a problem with them and I mentioned that they had spontaneously unlatched and that I'd been reading of problems with that type of seatbelt. I was then told that that was a legal issue and I needed to contact the corporate office, which I will do this afternoon.

I would like to have the generation 3 seat belts recalled in the Chrysler cars and vans as the latches protrude and may be unsafe.

I own a 2000 Plymouth Voyager. The seat belt in my middle seat on the drivers side spontaneously releases. This is the seat I had my 6 month old infant in. After the 4th time in a 3 week period I switched my son to a different seat.

I own a 2000 Chrysler mini van and on two occasions the seat belt have released while I was still parked in my driveway. On both occasions I was reaching over to get something from the passenger seat and the buckle came undone. I thought I had not secured it properly because my arm hit the lock on the seat belt. Now I find out today that I may have hit the buckle but it should not have popped open as there is a defect in the seat belt. Even thought it is a 2000 model I do not have the gen 4 type of belts in the front. The van must have been manufactured in the late 1999.
