My wife stopped to pickup our 6 Y/O son from the babysitter. She put the van in park and left the van running. (the rest of the event was seen by my wife and the babysitter) my 3 Y/O son climb out of his car seat, from the rear seat. He climbed into the driver seat and put the van in gear without pressing the brake. The van began to move forward down the street, picking up speed. Wife tryed to catch the van to stop it. Luckly my son turned the steering wheel to the left. The van jumped the curb and ran into a mobile home. Every car I have driven, you must press the brake before the car will go into gear. The dealer didn't tell us of this feature. We would have bought another model(we have 3 kids). What I need to know is : being able to put the van into drive without pressing on the break, a safty recall?

I have a two year old that put this car into drive while I was putting my four yr old in his car seat. I would have never bought this vehicle had I known that this vehicle could go into gear without having your foot on the brake. I now ask everyone who drives one of these vans if they knew that they could do that - they are as amazed as I am that this is allowed. This is an accident waiting to happen. I am enraged at their nonchalant attitude concerning this - there should be warnings on the vehicle. I even called the dealer to see if it was supposed to be like that. His response was well you just have to make sure the emergency brake is on at all times - thanks for not telling me that when I purchased the car.
