The rear window defogger has deterioated to the point where the silver in the grid is no longer present and only the ceramic component remains, leaving numerous electrical opens throughout the grid making it inoperable. There is no sign of any external influence to cause said problem. At 3 years of normal usage this appears to be a unique problem, hence pointing to a defective unit. The GM service department contacted agrees in the conclusion that this, in all likliness, is a defective product, especially that this problem has never been encountered at their location. I feel that the responsibility for the cost of replacement lies in the hands of GM's/Pontiac's divisions.
