Eventhough the intermediate shaft kit was done, my car still has a steering problem. It still makes some noise when turning and I still hear clunking noise. I hate to go back through customer complaint department because it's a pain in the butt. They should have issued a recall on all those models since they know that there is a problem. It was very frustrating trying to find a dealer that would acknowledge the problem. Initially the dealer ordered a new intermediate steering shaft but then found out wasn't a recall and did the lube. I don't think I would buy another GM car because of the run around I got with this problem

The dealer and mechanics claim its only a maintenance problem. But they have replaced the steering shaft many times. the last time they replaced the rack and pinion steering. Next day the noise was back.

After several complaints - and the dealership replacing the lub kit - and the noise going away for a few weeks - they replaced the steering shaft - well guess what, that was replaced 2 times so far and the noise is back. I spoke with the dealership and the service department advised - GM was working on a new fix. I called another dealership they said no new fix - all they do is use a lub kit. They have seen this happen with cars every 6 months other they have never seen. And this is also occuring with trucks.

It was replaced in 2002, It started again in 2005 so obviously the lubrication that they are using with the steering part is not working! Please let me know if there is a way to fix this problem without having to go get it replaced every other year!

I have the same grinding as everyone else who owns this car. They want to charge me $1000 to have it replaced, or lubed. Not gonna happen until the car collapses on the side of the road. This is so common the dealer knew what it was right away, and said they don't see these cars without this problem. Hey Pontiac!! Fix things that are your fault!!
