We have a 2007 G6. The Brakes go out every 10,000 miles on average. 2 day's ago the left rear brake Broke Off! Completely leaving my wife stranded. Not Happy. I get to fix it myself since GM say's it's Not Covered.

Bought the car used in 2009 with 20,134 miles at Bill Rapp Super Store in Syracuse and was told the brakes were new at time of purchase. Brought in 8/2010, 27,083 front pads and rotors replaced $290.00. 8/2011 told front and back pads/rotors needed replacing. Front pads were replaced, after much yelling, under warranty, cost $342.00. 3/31/2014 53325 miles told frt/back pads and rotors need replaced. Spoke with Mike and explained this was unconscionable that I am replacing again. I argued about the price. Also had to have a new throddle body assembly to a total of 1380.00 for everything I told Mike he needed to talk with the service manager about how I could possibly need to replace brakes again. Mike called me back and I was told they would take $200.00 off basically a warranty of the pads. Total cost with tax included $1180.00. Much to my surprise when I went to pick up the car the next day Mike who quoted me and called me back with lower quote no longer worked there, and it just so happens he conviently left off the warranty discount of $200.00. So much for a verbal contract. The price was back to $1380.00. I asked to speak to the sevice manager and he was not there. I was appalled at the lack of concern for a loyal customer. I soon realized with all the money GM is paying out it has to be recouped somehow and excessive break repair must be it. I said I had a verbal agreement for a price to to the work and they didn't care. I spent a good 30 min. trying to understand their logic and finally realized it was to screw the customer. I am sure most people don't look back at previous history of repairs but I did and spending $1185.67 on brakes and rotors and only driving the car 33,000 miles is absoutely rediculous. By the way they use AC DELCO DURASTOP brakes, wouldn't recommed using them they obviously don't last. The final explanation I was given was the reason your brakes are bad is you don't drive the car enough. I was told my complaints would be given to the customer service manager, guess he didn't care never got so much as a phone call. So I recommend you give your business to your local mechanics and avoid the corporate greed of GM and Bill Rapp Super Store. After excessive complaining they credited me for the warrenty of one brake pad by this time I was so mad I just paid the bill and left.

rubbing,pulsating while braking

When I asked the service advisor why there was a problem with the rotors with only 18253 miles, I was told it was how I drive the vehicle. The service advisor also could not tell me why the rotors would need resurfacing while the brakes didn't need replacing!

I was 59 yrs of age at that time and certainly don't drive like a hot-rodding teenager causing excessive wear and tear on brakes/rotors! I think they felt they could get away with saying anything to a 59 yr old woman. I'm extemely unhappy with the quality of the Pontiac G6, especially since it now has only 23,500 miles and don't know what future problems and expenses will crop up!

G6 V6 3.5L

Bought my first brand new car in May of 2007, only 13 kms. on it ! Wow, was I excited and proud! With only a little over 3000 kms. on it I noticed the brakes started to squeal. Took it to the G.M. dealership where I bought it and they said it would come and go based on the weather conditions and there was absolutely nothing to worry about. But reminded me that the warranty covered CHECKING the brakes but not repairing or replacing them. The noise got increasingly worse to the point where one of there service reps. told me to get the car to the dealership right away. I had taken it there another 2 times with the noise issues and also grinding....each time told it was normal. When I was instructed to bring it to the dealership on the last occasion, the brakes were actually grinding sand howling when I wasn't touching them and it would stop when I did depress the brake pedal. I was told that meant my pads were completely gone and my rotors were scored and either warped or ruined. On my visit previous to this, only a few weeks prior, I was sent away with the reassurance of the dealership that my brakes were noisy, but fine. After a quick diagnosis, they reported to me that somehow, my pads were completely disintegrated and my rotors were now shot due to driving the vehicle with little or no pads left over an extended period of time. I explained that they obviously had mis-diagnosed the brake issues on the previous 3 or 4 occasions to which they completely denied. They said it was the way I drove the car! It cost me almost $700.00 to repair the brakes and rotors and there was only 6700 kms. on the car. I have had cars in the past into the 100,000 miles and never done a brake re-line....I was shocked ? That isn't the end of it..... only 3000 kms later, those GM Quality brake pads and the rotors were gone again !!! Out of pocket this time was another $450.00 ! All in all, I replaced the front pads 3 times and front rotors twice, as well as the rear pads twice and rotors once in the first 18 months and 77,000 kms !! Decided to gather all my receipts and service reports from the dealership and called a grievance meeting through an arbitrator. Had the Service Manager from Kipp/Scott Pontiac and a GM. rep as well as the arbitrator at the meeting and after hearing both arguments, and the Service Manager bold face lie to her as she was completely unaware of the way a brake system should function, I lost....of course. The determination was that it was clear in the warranty that under no circumstances were the brakes covered under warranty! I still have the original rotors and destroyed pads to this day that were completely shot after only 5700 kms.

G6 SE 3.2L

So after being told that my car had 'long life' (60,000km) factory installed brake pads (back tires) which was causing them to squeal, I ended up replacing them at 35,000km out of my own pocket for about $300 at the dealership when there was nothing left of them. I had (foolishly) assumed that they would be covered under warranty since they had expired ridiculously early and they were the back brake pads which is unusual for this car. But after multiple phone calls to the dealership and GM corporate, being completely ignored by both, and taking the car back to the dealership at their convenience for further inspection, I have received absolutely no satisfaction. Not so much as even a free oil change offered for my inconvenience. I think my 'favorite' part of the whole experience was when they called back after the second inspection (where they were supposed to be inspecting for reasons why the brake pads failed early) they let me know that there did not appear to be anything wrong with the brakes and, in fact, they appeared new. To which I replied, they should appear to be new, you replaced them 10 days ago. The problem you were supposed to be looking for was why the first ones wore out so fast. All he had to reply was 'oh'. My advice if you encounter this problem....get them to inspect for problems before you get them replaced, get a second opinion and get the warranty issue dealt with before ever authorizing replacement. Of course that's only good if you're able to leave the car with the dealership for several days while they figure everything out, which we didn't want to. I will never buy another GM.....ever.
