This problem may be covered under warranty. Ask your Pontiac dealer.
My brake lights are on when driving and go off when braking. My first recall letter was in 2014 & again in 2017. Each time the repair was the same, retainer, strap, clip, retainer, whatever these things are. The dealer was very reluctant to fix(?) in this recent malfunction. I do not know if this will work, or for how long.

When you put the car in drive the brake lights come on and stay on. When you step on the brake pedal the brake lights go out. I called GM's number for Pontiac (800-762-2737) on 06/30/2014. I inquired about the NHTSA action number EA13005. They told me that letters would be sent out by July 13, 2014 to the owners and the dealers as to how to fix this problem. On July 16th, after not receiving the letter they said would be sent, I called GM again. This time they told me that they were not aware of any problem with the brakes or brake light problems. After going through several teleprompts just to speak to a live person I'm not sure if I was even talking to someone in the same department as I was the first time I called.
I NEED SOME HELP!!!
Is anyone else having this problem, or heard about it, or know of any remedies. It's a dangerous situation when the brake lights don't work properly.

Just called on the recall and was told they will not fix my car because my VIN is not included. Great I will just get killed. Thanks Pontiac! Faulty brake lights, cruise control, abs system and traction control issues should be a priority. I

The brake lights on my 2007 Pontiac G6 operate in reverse intermittently. I've been dealing with this issue for over a year now. I've reported it to the NHTSA. I've taken it to two mechanics. The first mechanic could never duplicate the problem and the 2nd installed a new brake light switch to see if that would fix the problem. It didn't. I was finally "bumped" at a stop light. Fortunately, there was only a scuff to my bumper and no injury- I got lucky.
My husband was following behind the other car and told me he finally witnessed the lights operating in reverse first hand. I can't afford to purchase another car and I'm simply an accident waiting to happen. A note to others who have this problem, use your cruise control. If the brake lights are on when they shouldn't be, cruise control will not engage. This may help you so you can slow down earlier and pump the brake to try and alert other drivers.

I had this problem for nearly a year as well. In looking for a solution I found a lot of stories of people paying a lot of money for unneeded repairs. Fortunately this is likely a pretty easy and inexepensive fix that takes less than 5 minutes. The reason the brake lights are coming on is due to corrosion in the body control module (BCM, part of the computer). It affects the internal communication of the vehicle and causes the brake lights to come on, even though you aren't braking. This also tells your cruise control, if on, that the brakes have been applied and it will shut it off.
To fix this you will need dialectric grease, which you apply to the connection for the BCM. This improves the conductivity of the BCM, allowing your car to communicate properly. It is located on the console side of the front passenger seating area. Rather than explaining it all here this is a video that I watched when I fixed mine ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N7RA7Mc_tLo ). It will walk you through the process. I did use a small brush to apply the grease and made sure to coat the connections thoroughly. Everything continues to work fine for me nearly a year later.

Brake lights are intermittent. Sometimes lights go on w/o me hitting the brake, other times brake lights do not wok at all.

I purchased Pontiac because, I had purchased the brand before and had a great car that gave me no trouble. I figured if I stayed true to the brand and keep with the regular maintenance of the car that it would be like my first Pontiac and give me no troubles....I was wrong.
The brake lights on my car stay on while I'm driving but, turn off any time I actually hit the brakes. This is extremely dangerous and has the potential to cause someone to rear end me while I'm driving. I purchased this car in November 2006 and this problem has reoccurred three times that I am aware of since I've owned the car. And the worst part is that it is not constant so, I truly have no idea how often it happens. The times I know about is because a friend or family member happened to be following me. Just this week the lights were malfunctioning Sunday, Monday and Tuesday but on Wednesday they worked properly then malfunctioned again on Friday. I have brought it into the dealership and several other places to get it checked over the years and low and behold its still an issue. This is a problem that GM needs to have repaired instead of charging me money on top of money to do diagnostic checks and not fix the problem!

I hit the break pedal and the break lights go out. When i am driving down the road, the breaks lights come on.

Start engine..brake lights on & my foot not even on brake pedal..when I brake the brake lights go off..while driving the brake light stay on and when I hit the brake pedal I have no brake lights at all unless I slam the brake pedal to the floor. So my brake light stay on while I am driving & it drives vehicles behind me nuts cuz they think I'm riding the brakes and I am not and when I apply the brakes to stop the damn brake lights go off when I need them on to warn traffic behind me that we need to stop and I have no brake lights to do this and I fear for my life and theirs. It's only a matter of time before something terrible happens and I don't want to die or kill someone.I took the tail lights off and used dilectric cleaner on them like I read but it did nothing to solve my problem..This 2007 G6 needs recalled and fixed ASAP...Please help before someone DIES!!!!

Shame, this is a great car ! GM needs to stand behind the safety concerns and make formal recall at any mileage with the brake problems .

THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE! It's an ongoing problem since we've owned the car that NO ONE can seem to repair(even though GM has seemingly known about this for years on this car.). This makes the car a death waiting to happen. The brakes light work in reverse when car is started and the shift lever is VERY difficult to switch out of park. The brakes are on all the time until you depress the brake pedal and then they GO OFF! How dangerous is this???? GM does not seem to care...someone will have to die and be national news before GM will take responsibility for this common problem in the G6! FURIOUS!

As I saw on here that there is now a recall for this problem, how do i go about getting it fixed if I bought the car used?
Also, not only does the brake light unexpectedly come on and interfere with the cruise, in the past week when the cruise is on and i brake the car revs up and have to stomp on the brake. Scarey!!!!
Has anyone got theirs fixed?

At first the cruise control stopped working (turned itself off) while set on interstate, then once I got into town a few motorist had stopped me to tell me there is an issue with the break light. When I stopped to check on the brake lights, they were in the on position while the brakes were NOT being depressed, then once the brake pedal was depressed the brake lights had turned off...like they were working opposite of the way they are suppose to. There was a GM recall for 2005-2006 for the same issue (NHTSA Action Number PE08054), obviously this was not addressed in future models. This is a major safety hazzard for both my family and other motorists on the road.

The brake lights are not working properly, they are work opposite the way they should. Seems to be an intermittent problem as it occurs once in awhile. The brake lights stay on while not touching the brake pedal, but once the brake pedal is depressed the brake lights turn. This is a safety concern for both my family and other motorist.

Brake lights reversed so they were displayed when not braking, and off when braking. Fixed under recall.
