G6 ES V6

  • Automatic transmission

Its ridiculous to pay as much as you do for a car and it doesn't last any longer or is made as cheap as a child's riding toy. I am very upset that came off in my hand just simply trying to open the door. Cheap Cheap!!!!!

G6 V6

bought the car new in june 2009 at this point it only has 15000 miles on it. went to open the door monday morning and the handle came off in my husband's hand. called the dealership and talked to the service center they said it would probably fall under damage and we may have to file a claim with insurance. i said uh uh! we have an appointment tomorrow (12/15) to have it looked at. i promise you i will not pay for this repair. will report back later.

I am completely amazed by this one - the handle just came off in my hand under normal use.

Upon inspection I see that the entire handle relies upon a thin strip of plastic, about 3/4" that's maybe 1/4th inch thick. The thing just sheared off at that point. This car is less than 6 months old!

I am sure it will be covered by the dealer - but I cant even see any way they could upgrade this part. Maybe a metal insert...

Of course, its painted, which means it will take at least a day or 2 to repair which sucks.

This would seem to be a safety issue - if there were any kind of urgency and the handle just came off I can think of dozens of ways this could go badly.

Update from May 12, 2009: Just a little additional note. I had to rent a car while mine is being repaired - I just happened to say my door handle just fell off to the rental guy - he said that the same thing happened to one of his rentals a little while ago - his customer claimed the handle just came off in his hand. Then he said it was a Pontiac - umm, a G6! a 2008 G6 2-door coupe!

The dealer is ordering the part then has to paint it - they tried to give me the car back meanwhile, but I refused to drive it and they gave in and are covering the rental

Update from Jun 3, 2009: Dealer replaced handle - of note: this is a painted piece and it takes several days to repair

I had to get a rental car. Here's a neat tidbit - i mentioned to the guy at the rental place that my door handle "just fell off" he said the exact same problem happened to a customer of his a month earlier. he then said the car was a pontiac, G6!!!
