Brake lights come on without pressing pedal. Then turn off when pressing the pedal.

My brake lights turn on when I'm not braking and off when I'm braking. It's truly scary knowing I had no idea until a stranger pulled up next to me and told me both my brake lights were out at a red light but then on when I would pull off. My kids and I could have been seriously hurt from other cars not knowing I was braking. I had know idea, especially since Velvoline did a brake check when I had my last oil change two weeks ago.

This problem with the brake lights being on when driving and going out when depressing the brake pedal is very dangerous at times and seems to be a safety issue. The problem with my brakes started after having the head gasket replaced under warranty. The dealership (fixed)the problem at the time but when it happened again I was told it would be fixed if it was deemed something they done wrong.

I bought this car used back in Dec of 2016. Around February I had the Traction Control & Electronic Stability Control went out. Then in June, July, August & September it became a daily or weekly issue. It would go out and on. Other than me losing my Cruise Control ability, nothing else seemed wrong. Yesterday on the way home from work in the morning a driver pulled up side me to tell me my brake lights were working in reverse. Which caused me to remember the letter I received from GM back in March 2017. Today I took in my car and had the Recall performed. I am hoping this fixes my Cruise Control, Traction Control, Electronic Stability & Brake Light issue. I am thankful that I was never rear ended when my Brake Lights were going out.
