About These NHTSA Complaints:
The NHTSA is the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints can be spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem. See the Back button — blue bar at the very top of the page — to explore more.
Based on a tip from the ls1gto.com message board, I checked my recently purchased 'certified" 2004 Pontiac GTO for a fuel line rubbing the fuel rail plastic cover - and eventually wearing through the fuel line, and causing a fire in the engine compartment. My vehicle does indeed exhibit the symptom - and it was just checked and "certified" at the dealer when I purchased it 45 days ago. I have removed the fuel rail covers permanently and will have to purchase a new fuel line myself as it seems GM or the NHTSA are unwilling to admit and fix the problem. A number of fires have already been reported by others.....

I own a 2004 Pontiac GTO. Removal of the fuel rail covers indicates that the fuel line was impinged upon by the fuel rail cover on the drivers side. Recently there have been a couple of GTO's on the website that have caught fire and many owners including myself that checked and noticed the problem. GM needs to fix this problem. I learned of this from www.ls1gto.com here a couple of links regarding the problem: www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php"T=76496 www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php?T=76173 www.ls1gto.com/forums/showthread.php"T=278541.
