Let me forewarn anyone is going to buy a Grand AM that has the twin-cam overhead motor. When the motor gets about 85,000-87,000 miles on it, they blown up on you. Yes there is a way to tell if there is a problem, the car will have a very loud knocking noise whenever the car is started. Your best advise is to stay away from this motor unless you like buying new(er) motors for this car. I am from up north originally, and this motor runs about $1,000 if your lucky. Just please be careful when buying these cars.
